Upgrading MYW to AP-expiration date?

I have read the ticket sticky above but have a question due to past experience. We will be in WDW from 5/9-17 this year and would like to upgrade our MYW tickets to AP. We visit every year the same week so would like to use the AP's the following year. My question is- in Cheshire's sticky it states that once the MYW ticket is used the expiration of the AP (once upgraded) will be the date of the first use of the MYW ticket, right? (For example ticket first used on 5/9/15 but upgraded on 5/17/15 will expire 5/9/16). I am asking because in 2013 we upgraded our MYW tickets and this was not the case. We had 10 day MYW tickets. We were visiting from 5/10-5/19. The date of first use was 5/10, we upgraded our tickets to AP's on 5/18/13. Our passes were good until 5/18/14. We used them up until 5/18/14. Was this an error, glitch or has it changed?

It was probably an error by the CM who upgraded you. The expiration date of the AP SHOULD be one year from the day the ticket was first used.

Thank you! Not going to try my luck and upgrade a second time then! LOL We would need them through 5/16/16. No AP's this year!

Yes, and a very common one.

Another too-common CM error with AP's is to back-date them to the date that a voucher was purchased, even though the actual activation date was months after the purchase date.

Since the CM in the booth has the ability (necessity) of manually entering the AP anniversary date,
guests should always carefully check the date on their AP before leaving the booth.

How do you check the date? Mine were before magic bands and they just wrote the date in marker on the ticket.

Didn't you receive an Annual Pass card? You've always needed that for discounts.

check the date they write on the card, make sure they have written the correct date.

Yes we had a card! Just thought with all the money they spent on this new system they would have something more than a date written in sharpie markers lol.

The date will show up on MDE. When you look at your tickets it will show your passes with expiration date.
