its time to get new phones, i currently have a driod and am going to get the droid 4 and my husband will get whatever free phone he likes (he has a blackberry for work so no need getting anything fancy for him). any advice/suggestions before i go in? i'd like to get the cost down if possible :thumbsup2

We just upgraded January 2nd. Droid Razr for me and an LG Cosmos2 (non-smart phone) for DW.

Only suggestion I have is to go into a real Verizon store so you can "play" with the real phones and see what they look and feel like. I hate those stores with a plastic mockup and sticker for the screen. If I'm spending $300 up a phone I want to see the real thing first!

Once you find a phone you like, price it on verizon's website. In my case, the Razr was the same price, but the Cosmos was like $99 cheaper (free) if I got it online as opposed to getting it in the store. :goodvibes

I love my Strasphere got it free from Best buy better than paying 60.00 bucks at VZW store.

We just upgraded our phones (we're procrastinators- our upgrade window opened in August of 2010), although we did a lot of research......:confused3

We started out looking at a Windows phone, but would like them to pick up a bit more of market share before we take the plunge.
Then we were looking at the iPhone because DH has an iPod Touch and the iPhone seems to be a lot like it.
THEN, I decided that we should get one iPhone and 1 Droid so that we'd have true diversity. Of course I got sticker shock, because if we went with the Apple/Droid combo we'd be spending roughly $320. Plus, we have an older plan that isn't compatible with SmartPhones. So our bill would be going from $74 to $145 or so. :scared1::scared1:

Well, we received our phones today! Two HTC EVO Shift 4g's that retail at the carrier's store for $99.99 each (with contract extension) plus the $36 per phone activation. Total $264. I checked around online and ended up with the same phones for FREE!! AND, although we pay the activation fee- in 3 months we'll get a refund on the activation charges! And to offset the cost of the new plan- we've cancelled our land line. That will help to reduce the out of pocket- and I'll just get him to give up another toy being as he whined for a new SmartPhone.....:rotfl2:

if you order online you will get instant rebates vs. having to pay up front and then getting rebate cards. If you want to see the phone in person go to a Verizon store (not an authorized agent) and decide what you want then come home and order online.

I agree, go into the store to feel them in your hand. Then go online and research, read reviews, etc.

When I did this, I decided against the iPhone. Even though I have an iPod Touch, the iPhone was just lacking something for me. When we upgraded in December, we both original Droids. We ended up getting a Galaxy Nexus and a ReZound. At other online retailer, the ReZound was 1/2 the Verizon price and Nexus was about $75 less.
