Hi There!
We are currently booked on the 8/30/03 cruise in a Catagory 9, however we are now thinking we want a veranda - Cat. 6 or higher. I am looking for opinions/suggestions as far as upgrading at the port is concerned. How much do these upgrades usually cost? We do not have our hearts set on being in a veranda room and would be happy with our Cat. 9 - it would just be that much nicer to have the veranda and the extra space. I priced it out and it is going to be about $1000 more if we switch to a veranda room now. We will be on the first shuttle to the port in the morning (staying at the Hyatt the night before) so we are hoping to be one of the first in line - are these upgrades hard to come by? I assumed we were sailing on a relatively slow week (they are still offering the early booking savings and they have every catagory available) so I didn't think it would be too hard to upgrade, but I wonder if I'm wrong. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I did an upgrade at the port last time we cruised. I checked the price of the two cabins the day before we left. It was about $600 difference. When I inquired at chceck-in at the port, the price was the same. I have heard of instances where the price was less, but I can only speak from my experiences. It never hurts to ask.

Disney almost always sails at full capacity. If there is room on the ship they put our a Florida resident special and that usually fills the vessel. The two times I have sailed, Jan 2003 and Nov 2001 (right after 9/11 so you would think travel would have been down) there were signs at check in that the ship is full and there will be no up grades / room changes. If I were you I would book whatever room you want now, while there is still room to do it.

I accidently answered this on a different thread so I'll repeat myself here......

Last Oct. 19 (7 day Eastern) my parents upgraded at the port from cat. 9 to cat. 6 for $350. To upgrade from cat. 10 to cat. 6 it was $800 per cabin. We did not upgrade (had connecting cat. 10's) although connecting cat. 6's were available, it was not worth $1600 to us (we had 2 adults and 5 kids and not having connecting staterooms was NOT an option for us). My parents loved their verandah so much (it literally made the cruise for them) they asked us to join them this Nov. without kids!
