upgrading at check in?

Ok I am booked for FD at POR garden view room in august. My question is when I get there wil they let me upgrade to the Royal room standard view? This room catagory is not available to book uder FD but availble rack rate. At check in when they know no one else will be booking that catagory will they finally let me book it with FD?? TIA

If you upgrade at check in, you lose any discounts and you pay full rack rate for the room.

Rooms most likely are not available for RR rooms because they are not having trouble filling them. You cannot pick and choose discounts. They are done to fill rooms.

Nope. You'd have to pay rack rate and you'd lose FD.

You would think disney would like more of my money. Its almost 200 to upgrade so you would think at the time of check in they would love to get some more $$ especially since it will most likely sit empty. Maybe some more rooms will open as we get closer and people cancel. Thanks for the responses!

When someone cancels a room with a promo like free dining, Disney does not necessarily make that room available for the discount again.
It would not hurt to ask at check-in, just realize that it might not happen.

99 times out of a hundred, promotions go back into regular inventory.

PO is always the first to sell out because they are the most affordable for a family of 5. They have just been through a major refurb. A travel agent posted she has been trying to get FD at POR for her client and cannot. The rooms are not sitting empty.

I did call disney today to book my moms room and decided to ask them about this. while I had them on the phone I figured it was worth asking. the CM stated it was up to the manager at the front desk at the time of check in. There is no guarentee but she said it's worth asking .

I was either given a dollar figure that the upgrade would cost or was told there was no availability. I had a couple of times the upgrade was a reasonable fee, other times it was the difference between my current rate and rack rate of the room I was asking about.

So I say when you check in nicely ask CM to if the Royal room is available for upgrade and what the additional cost would be.

I am going to do this cause you never know what they will say ya know. I wont be heart broken if they wont let me upgrade (more money for souvies and snacks) but I would be really excited if they did let me upgrade! Those rooms look like lots of fun!!

I would be curious if you had a discount attached to your original ressie. Most people comment that they can upgrade for the difference between the existing rate and the rack rate, but they were not trying to transfer over a discount, like FD as the OP is trying to do.

I always have a discount. Trying to remember the times I asked I think it was either GP or AP discounts. Not free dining. One time I asked and was upgraded to the Tower I paid a small fee. Something like $60 more a night. One other time I was offered $99 more a night to go from WL courtyard to concierge. I remember at least once it would have been the difference from my discounted rate to rack rate of what I was looking to upgrade too.

When I was upgraded to the Tower it was June so I assumed they needed the garden wing room and was happy to upgrade for some fee.

That is what I figured; thanks for the info. I knew I was not dreaming; a few CM's have commented you get quoted rack rate, unless you have AP or GP. I do not think anyone has been able to do it with free dining.
