I have the ability to get adult tickets through my company at a pretty good rate, but can't get the kids ones. I know that kids can USE an adult ticket. Will there be any trouble if I decide I want to upgrade to an annual pass for my DD (who is 5), if I use her ticket?

Also, does anyone know what they require to prove you're So.Cal resident? We may be moving to San Diego next month, or perhaps August. I want to take the kids to DLR before we go back to school. We will probably be in company provided transitional housing for the first month we're there. Will there be anything that I could bring to show we're So. Cal. residents that they would accept for me to get the So. Cal. resident rate? I'm anticipating that we'd want to all of us go for a few days, but only DD and I would probably want/need the annual passes.

TIA for helping out here!

I showed them my ID. I would think you would have give them at least an address. Sorry I could be more helpful. Maybe just wait until you move and then get an annual pass. Welcome to California!!!

Photo ID with your SoCal address.

They might accept something like a utility bill addressed to your SoCal address, a lot of places do that.

See, that's the deal, my ID wouldn't be a CA ID yet. I'd be wanting to get the annual passes during the summer, since that's when the kids are out of school. And, the two months (and the entire summer) after we arrive, the company puts us up in transitional housing, so nothing is really in our name yet. I thought perhaps others have dealt with a move and might have some other ideas.....?

If you're wanting to get passes in the summer, you probably wouldn't want to get the SoCal passes anyway, because you can't really use them during the summer. You'd want to get the Deluxe or the Premium if you want to use them during the summer, and you wouldn't need to be a SoCal resident to buy those.

Also, there is no Adult/Child Annual Pass; they are all the same.

I have used an adult ticket to upgrade to a child pass but it took a whole lot of effort. The policy is that they will not do it. If you argue (and argue and argue) the manager may allow it. (This was 3 years ago when we were renewing-long story)
I have had friends who were totally denied. I think it really depends on the CM and his/her mood that day. It's possible, but I wouldn't count on it.
Also, if you upgrade tickets to passes you have to buy a deluxe or annual pass-they won't let you get a Southern Cal Pass-at least that is one of their "policies"- again you may be able to argue your point but it is not likely.

I've upgraded tickets to SoCal passes twice. Also, I can see why they wouldn't allow you to upgrade an adult ticket to a pass for a child, because if they allowed it, that means that the person getting the AP is not the same person who used the ticket.

I was able to "prove" i was living in SoCal by showing them my college ID, so i think they are fairly easy with how you can prove it.

I understand that others have had a difficult time upgrading an adult hopper to an AP for a child, however, we did it without a problem in 2005. They didn't even question it. So, it can be done. If questioned, I would make sure you tell the CM the reason you are using an adult hopper for your child is because you get them at a discount, and they shouldn't have a problem with it.

Not necessarily. In the OP's case they only sell adult tickets so OP is buying a child an adult ticket. There are other occassions when you might have a child with an adult ticket-related to dining, tickets won in a contest, gifts, etc.

Exactly as I said...it's their "policy" but they are able to get around it if the CM wants to-just like adult ticket for child upgrades.

I have had friends told that they cannot upgrade tickets without going into the park (which I know is possible as I have upgraded at the ticket booth outside every year), I have had friends told they can't upgrade because the ticket is not signed (which they promptly signed). I have even had a friend who was harrassed with a million questions about where & when they purchased the tickets- why they want to upgrade now- had to see each individual family member's face prior to starting the transaction, asked which dates exactly they used the hoppers and which parks/times they entered each day.
I have not had this bad of an experience, but I have learned that being forthright and nice always works better than rude and decieving.:)

I think may be their policy, but that makes me mad. DLR is very clear in the policy that children can use the adult park hopper. For numerous reasons, including availability of discounts, people use adult hoppers for their kids alot of times. Some even do it because they think they have to, as their child moves to "adult" status during their trip. The last three times we've gone, DD's ticket has been adult, since I'm able to get great discounts on tickets from work, but they're only adult tickets. I think it ends up being maybe $2-3 more than a child ticket, but I'd rather eat the difference and get the tickets all together and not have to stand in line forever to get tickets when I'm there. I've also purchased adult tickets not knowing the entire make up of our party until right before we left, and ended up having adult tickets used for children. If Disney is going to allow a child to freely use an adult tickets, which 98% of the time would be more expensive, I can't understand why they'd have a policy of not allowing someone to use it to upgrade. I had heard/seen that elsewhere so I did want to ask.

Thanks everyone!
