We booked the Panama Canal cruise while we were on the Magic for the WBTA. Payment was required in full at the time of booking, but this is a cruise we really want to do so we just bit the bullet. We booked a Category 11B. I just went on the DCL website and the prices have really crashed. We could now get a category 9 for about $1500 less than what we paid for our category 11 or a category 7 for about the same price. Has anybody upgraded after final payment? Is this actually still possible? I am leaning towards the category 7.

Corinna - if I remember right your deal is locked in. However since you are not downgrading to get a reimbursement you may be able to! Worth a call at least!!

Glenn and I are jealous! We both would love to do the PC!!

No, we are definitely not looking to downgrade. We are just trying to get a better cabin for what we paid. I nominated my travel agent to handle the booking and I emailed her with the DCL confirmation number yesterday as DCL is notoriously bad to inform travel agents when they have been nominated. The only cabin that I really liked on the room tour was the Navigator Veranda so most likely this is what we would go for which would be round about the same price than what we paid anyway. Graham would be delighted with this and there are specific cabins to choose which are on deck 5 and 7 forward.

I am hoping that our agent will be in touch with their confirmation number tomorrow and then I will get her on the case regarding the upgrade. I really did not think that I would ever agree to a split bathroom, but at those prices, it would be silly not to. In any case, I rarely used our bathroom on the Transatlantic. I mainly showered up at the spa and used the public restrooms more often than my own bathroom.

Hi Corinna,

I just recently upgraded my stateroom well after my final payment had been made and documents received. I saw Florida Resident rates post for my cruise and called to see if I could upgrade. They moved us from Category 11 to Category 8 for about $90 by adding in my Florida residency. Bigger room, split bath and an outside view for $90?! Absolutely! Just give them a call and I am sure they'll let you know your upgrade options.

I'm on the PC cruise too. I have been keeping a close eye on prices and checking every few days for the last few months (except for the first week of October when I was out of town). Prices have remained fairly stable and I haven't seen a price drop. My cat 11B was approx $2100/person when I booked in January and is now $2159. Cat 9s seem to be running approx the same as they have in the prior weeks too. Is there some type of discount code that i don't know about? TIA!!!

From what i have read, DCL will allow a Florida rate discount to be applied after the penalty date but not a general public discount. Doesn't make sense to allow one discount code to be applied but not another. I remember a big stink that was caused a day or two after the penalty date for the EBTA. Big discounts were released and people that wanted to apply the discounts had to cancel and lose their deposit to rebook. If there are FLR discounts, they will just apply the discount code w/o the loss of deposit.

I just went back to check and noticed something. For some reason the DCL website is now giving the option to quote in Pounds and as I am in the UK, it has defaulted to this. So the price that I had seen earlier was in Pounds and not in Dollars. I feel so stupid right now.

I wonder how they would handle upgrades though. When I thought the prices had crashed, the price that I thought was in Dollars was only a few Dollars more than what we had paid. So we would actually have ended up paying them a little extra rather than asking for any money back.

No reason to feel stupid. :goodvibes That is a new feature they added so I could see how it could be mistaken if pounds are defaulted.

I would like to know too. I remember seeing a post a few weeks ago where someone stated they upgraded when they received their room assignment because the room had bad reviews. It was just a week or so prior to sailing. I wish I had thought to ask how they handled the upgrade. They should upgrade w/o penalty if more money is due. The only reason I could think of that they wouldn't is if DCL thinks they will still sell that higher cat room to someone else. If they allow you (or me) to upgrade w/o penalty, then your room becomes available but at a lower cost than what you paid. Then they are loosing money. Not saying I agree but just trying to think of reasons why they wouldn't allow it. Hopefully someone will know and chime it.
