Upgrading a single day Magic Kingdom ticket

In December I'm taking my elderly mother and elderly Aunt on a Disney Cruise. However before the cruise we are staying for 2 nights at the Boardwalk Villas and will have one full day to do a park. As my aunt has never been to DisneyWorld I thought it would be a crime not to visit at least one park. And as most people think of the MK when they think of Disney I was going to take her to that park. Here is my question. If for some reason we don't go to the MK, will I be able to upgrade those unused tickets at a later day to a 4 or 5 day pass for the next visit and pay the difference? The one day tickets will be purchased from UCT.

Yes, but...

There's no reason to buy a one day ticket from UCT. They're actually more expensive than just buying directly from Disney.

Thanks. I did look at Disney site prices as well but figured after shipping the cost between UCT and Disney would be the same.

Nope, UTC will be about $4/ticket more expensive. There's no reason to ship; just buy the tickets online and they'll automatically link to your MDE profile and be accessible via the magic bands you receive for your stay at the Boardwalk. Unused tickets can be reassigned using the website.

Great idea. And with the Canadian Dollar dropping against the US dollar, that $105 USD single ticket is already costing me $138.00 CDN. So anywhere I can save a couple of bucks is great. Thanks everyone for your comments.

Do you have to add days at the park guest services? Or can you do it ahead of time?
We have a single day ticket, and are planning to do a 7 day trip next summer... Can we just upgrade that tix on the phone or MDE to do the 60day FP reservations?

You cannot upgrade a ticket over the phone. It must be done in person. (Unless it's part of a package in which case you can modify the package.)

Since you cannot upgrade an existing ticket in advance...
If making 7 days of advanced FP+ is important to you, it would be better to buy a new 7-day ticket in advance of your upcoming trip and continue to hold the one-day ticket for a future shorter trip.

It is also legal to sell or gift a new, never-used ticket.
That would be easier to do to someone you know, but eBay is also a possibility.
