My husband has a convention in June and we have the opportunity to purchase discount Park Hoppers. They only have the option of up to a 3 day listed. Does anyone know if you can take this to the parks upgrade to a 4 day PH?

That's the same as my experience - Convention tickets are not upgradeable so you need to purchase exactly what you will be using.

The "After 2:00PM" and "After 4:00PM" Convention tickets cannot be upgraded.

But some Convention Tickets can be upgraded.
However, there's no real advantage in upgrading the convention ticket, as you will only get what you paid for it in the upgrade.

You might as well just buy a 4-day PH to begin-with.

We've gotten full day convention tickets and they have always been restricted from upgrading. I suppose some may have special options but even the full days come with restrictions. This was this past February, approx 3 years ago and again maybe 5 or 6 years ago.

These are full day convention tickets and were a nice savings off of a regular park hopper. I only wanted to see if we could take that and add a day at regular price. Still would be a savings on cost.

The rules of upgrading say that you must upgrade from the original ticket that you have (in this case a 3-day hopper ticket) to a 4-day ticket.

To do that, you must start with what you paid for your 3-day ticket, then subtract that from the cost of the 4-day ticket.
Then, pay the difference for the upgrade.

Tickets purchased directly from Disney cannot be price-bridged, so you must pay the difference between what the original ticket cost and the cost of the ticket to which you want to upgrade.

I'd purchase from a broker such as Undercover Tourist to get the savings. The convention tickets are nice if they have the number of days you want but it sounds like they don't for you. We've always had the option for longer tickets for people who arrived a little early or stayed a few days after the convention so never been restricted to fewer days.

You don't just "add a day" to a ticket. You exchange one ticket for a new one. You receive credit for your old ticket towards the new one. Tickets purchased directly and separately from Disney are only worth the price you paid.

Tickets purchased from third parties and as part of a vacation package are "bridged" to the current gate price, so you effectively just pay the different to add a day.

Convention tickets are not "normal" tickets. There is no "gate price" for the ticket. If the allow it, you'd only get credit for the price you paid towards a longer duration ticket. So, it's kind of pointless. Just buy the longer ticket up front, or make due with the cheaper ticket.
