We are taking advantage of the free dining and have gotten a 10 day base ticket with the package. My question is this...can I upgrade the ticket and purchase an annual pass with the DVC discount, yes I'm a member? ;) If so how would I do this?

Take your unused MYW ticket (it will be probably be encoded onto your room key) to a Guest Relations booth at any of the four major parks or at Downtwon Disney. (The resorts cannot perform any annual pass transactions, so you do have to go to a GR location).

You'll need to show the GR CM your blue DVC membership card and a photo ID. You'll pay the difference in price between the MYW ticket and the DVC-discounted AP/PAP. That's all there is to it.

Best wishes -

That was my question too!! We are brand new members - but were already taking advantage of the free dining in August. I knew someone would have the answer. Thanks!

Carol gave you the exact directions on what to do.
However, I would call ahead of time and ask if you can still upgrade the ticket once it is used. I know this sounds crazy, but a few weeks ago we were at WDW. We met up with friends that are FL residents. Their APs have expired and were not sure they wanted to renew in June. They usually do not go to the parks in the summer so they get FL seasonal passes. So, they were thinking of just buying a 1 day ticket for that day. They were explaining their situation to the CM at the GS office in DTD. The CM told them they could buy the 1 day ticket that day and use it; then if they decided to upgrade AFTER the 1 day pass had been used, they would be given full credit of the price of the 1 day ticket towards the purchase of a FL seasonal AP. We were all shocked and could not believe it would work this way. There was a time limit on how long they had to upgrade. It was either 2 weeks or 30 days, I can not remember. They bought the 1 day tickets and they immediately used them.
We then decided to go back to a park together before the blackout dates started for FL seasonal passes. We meet at the park (Epcot); they went to GS and they were able to upgrade to a FL seasonal AP and were given a full credit for the price paid for the used 1 day ticket!
We were all shocked but very happy. I do not think they "got away" with anything, because we were told this info from a CM at GS in DTD and then had no problem doing this exact thing, at a different location (GS in Epcot) 2 days later.
This may not apply to MYW tickets because they are tied with the resort room and the DDP. But you never know. It would certainly be worth it to me, to make a phone call. Also if you do call, and get a CM that does not seem to know too much--hang up and call back. Unfortunately the turnover of help is happening so fast they can not get people thoroughly trained before they are put in the line of fire. We have friends that are CMs at WDW that tell us this, all the time.
I even exprienced this personally a few weeks ago. I called the Annual Passholder line to inquire about FL seasonal passes. I was told such a thing did NOT exist! I suggested he check with someone else, and he of course, came back and gave me the requested information.
It is a sad day, when the WDW guests know more than the CMs.
Maybe they should seriously consider raising their hourly wages. They pay pitiful amounts. But, in all fairness, they are in line with the market wages for their field and their area competition.

Actually I read that you can use used MYW tickets, but it has to be within 14 days of the first use. Your AP will start the first day you used the MYW ticket.

Thanks for the replies. I called member service and the cm told me no it can NOT be done. I asked why not and she goes on to tell me it's two different companies and I couldn't use the dvc dicount to get the upgraded ticket :confused3 what? I'm not buying my ticket FROM dvc I told her...I plan to upgrade at the parks. She put me on hold to get clarification...came back with the same answer. I have the 10 base which is $223 and the AP with DVC discount is $315 why wouldn't it be possible...I'm giving Disney more of my money :thumbsup2, don't they want it? :snooty: :lmao: .

So is there anyone who has purchased a package not seperate components and done this please let me know. Thanks!!

BTW I will try calling again tomorrow.

We took advantage of the free dinng last year and spent 3 nights at Pop Century before moving to the VWL. The only difference in our scenario is we only went for the one day base ticket, not the 10 day. One of the first things we did upon arrival was to go to Downtown Disney where the cast member at Guest Relations was happy to help us purchase APs with the DVC discount, and applying the unused pass on our room key towards the price. :thumbsup2 We plan on doing the same thing this year, except we won't be buying new APs til January. I would try calling back and talking to another CM, bet you get a different answer than the first CM!

I did it, except that I had bought the premium MYW tickets and just got a regular AP. So I got money back!

One caution -- they will have the AP begin on the day you bought your original MYW tickets. I think I had purchased my MYW tix online in February, but we traveled in May and that's when I changed to AP. Our AP was valid Feb to Feb. Which was fine for us because we traveled in May and then in January, and got 15 days use out of them, but had the plans been different it could've been a huge waste.

We just did this in October...had a package w/1 day MYW base ticket. Went to GS @ Downtoon Disney and applied the 1 day ticket to an AP w/DVC discount. It was very easy and as an added bonus, there was no line at all at this GS location!
