Upgrading 1 day ticket for AP payment plan

I am going to Disneyland on Saturday June 16 and am anxious to enter DCA when they open. We are planning on purchasing a Deluxe AP on the payment plan with a DVC discount ( so cannot purchase ahead of time online). To save time from getting into the ticket line first thing in the morning, I was thinking of taking advantage of the new mobile ticket purchase for a one day one park ticket to enter DCA right away then midday upgrading my ticket. I know on the payment plan you have to put down $87, the price of a one day ticket. Will it work that I already have the one day ticket as my down payment or will I have to fork over another $87? Is this a good strategy or not? I don't want to purchase ahead of time also because Saturday would be a block out day and want to get in that day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The one day ticket is your down payment. Good luck, I hope you have no issues! Also, should mention, you can upgrade to the AP and activate it on a blockout day and they'll still let you in without paying that extra fee.
