How do you go about getting an upgrade when you check into your resort. I've read post about people getting bumped up to concierge level at check-in. We're staying at BWI in December; and I would love an upgrade!

I think it's just luck of the draw. You could always ask for a complimentary upgrade when you check in, but don't get your hopes up. Have fun!

Free upgrades are luck of the draw and should not be expected. If you really want a certain view or level of service then you should book that view or level(concierge).

We have booked a water view at BWI; but I had read a post a while back about somebody getting a free upgrade to concierge when they checked in. I know I'll be happy with what I have booked; but an upgrade would be a nice little bonus!:D :D :D

We just returned from AKL yesterday. We had 2 rooms reseved. When I checked in I asked if 1 room could be upgraded (didn't mention anything about complimentary). The CM told me it would be an extra 65/night and I agreed and when she told us our rooms they were both savannah view and she said by the way I didn't charge you. We did have the people pen view but the giraffe trail ran beside them and we saw more animals from our rooms than anywhere else.DebM

Hi! We got an upgrade at the GF, to Royal Palm Concierge from a lagoon view room, but that was because they decided to sprinkle some pixie dust on our Disney wedding/honeymoon trip.
Now that we've stayed Royal Palm, we realize that we want to stay in concierge on every trip, so we would definitely make sure that we paid the extra to guarantee getting concierge level. I wouldn't count on an upgrade - we loved the main building concierge too much to risk maybe getting a regular room. If you really want it, definitely just pay the extra money and have that guarantee.
Cheers!

We have been upgraded the last 2 trips - 1 to CBR and 1 to POFQ. Both times we booked the "standard room". I faxed a very nice letter to the resort(s) 4 days before (that is when room assignments are completed) asking if they had any upgrades available. I also mentioned it was our honeymoon and anniversary (for the 2nd trip). I put in the fax that this would be very much appreciated but I of course understood if we could not be accomodated. Both times they upgraded us to king size waterview rooms at n/c.

I think alot has to do with the "season" you go and how booked up the resort is. And..... most importantly..... be extremely nice when asking.

I think I will try faxing a letter 4 days before we go and mention the upgrade. Like I said, I won't be counting on it; but it would certainly be a nice suprise! Thanks for the info!
