We are doing our first split stay from Nov 27th through Dec 5th. The first part we are staying in a 1br at BWV and then moving over to the YC for the last 3 nights. We love the YC and have stayed there alot, but this is the first time staying there on points. We've been upgraded a couple times when we've stayed there on a cash reservation (last time was to a Concierge floor) but I was wondering if they ever upgrade a points reservation. We have a water view booked this time and are always very happy with any room we get at this resort.

I was wondering if they ever upgrade a points reservation.

almost never. timeshares are very different than hotels.

there have been a handful of upgrades reported but usually due to a maintenance issue. if you ask for an upgrade, expect to be charged the additional pts.

At the non-DVC resorts, like Yacht Club, they may do some upgrades on point reservation, but not as often as they do on cash reservations. Upgrades at DVC resorts, though, are usually only given if the room type you've reserved goes out of service for maintenance.

We used points to stay at the Contemporary Resort a few years ago. We also booked some nights on cash. We couldn't get the same category room for cash that we got on points. When we arrived we asked if we might be able to stay in the same room that we got for points as we paid for cash and were told NO. That would be an upgrade and they didnt' up grade points stays.

This guy got the ultimate upgrade. The suite looks amazing.

Excerpt: Upon arriving to the Disneyland Resort, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member Michael Gold recently had the good fortune of being one of the first to stay inside the lush new suite, themed around the classic Disney roller coaster, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Gold had initially booked two rooms at the Disneyland Hotel using his DVC points but was excited to find out he had been upgraded to the Big Thunder Suite upon arrival. At check-in, he was told the suite had just been completed days prior.

You would have to set up two different trips in order to do that.....they won't transfer in the middle of stays with DVC. The only way around that is to have two separate trips set up

Thanks Everyone... It looks like I waded into a well worn subject. When I was a cash customer, I always booked what I could afford or what was available and was very happy with what I got. I've never had a bad room at WDW, even if just for the fact that we were at WDW!!! However, the upgrades we received were very nice surprises... and did what they were intended to do... kept us coming back and paying for upgrades.

As for now belonging to DVC, I do understand the possitive and negative tradeoffs between a cash and points reservation... and I am very very happy to be part of DVC. I was more curious then anything about staying at a non-DVC resort and if upgrades ever happened at those resorts...

But all in all, we are just excited to be going again!!!
