Upgrades taking our rooms?

Does anyone know how the upgrade thing is happening? I've heard that people at POP are getting SSR and OKW upgrades. When does this happen? Right when they book or a couple months out or a couple weeks out? And are they just upgrading to the stock of reserved cash basis rooms or are they just filling up all they rooms?
Just curious since we have been having a heck of a time getting ressies lately. Now we usually never book at the 7 month window so I could see not getting BCV, VWL or new AKV, but we always used to get OKW or even BWV when we booked 3-4 months. Even when we did a last minute 1-2 month out ressie, we never had problems. Just curious if DVC's just getting too big and this is the future of my membership or if they're giving out the rooms several months in advance thus leaving no rooms available for us late DVCers. Don't get me wrong, I DON'T expect that there will be a room waiting for me when I make a last minute trip. I totally agree with the booking windows, etc. and know that I take that risk. I will be mad though if they are giving upgrades 3-4 months out when there could still be members who want the room.

Keep in mind that Disney is a member so to speak. Points are sold for DVC to be nearly full all the time. Disney has been awash in points recently. When they have points, they are just like us, they have to use them somehow.

Speculating for a second, the POP upgrades to me were just another indication that Disney doesn't really want points - that they have difficulty turning points into lucrative CRO reservations. Which would justify the lousy value we get on exchanges into the DCL/Disney Collection/etc.

I recieved one of the POP to SSR upgrades we booked in April for Aug 29-Sept 3 and were offered the upgrade to a one bedroom at SSR the beginning of June sometime. My understanding is that they were from the Disney CRO stock and not from DVC inventory (although I could be wrong).
It seem however after bouncing around on all the threads that both DVC and CRO customers are complaining about not being able to get the rooms they want. On one of the other sites people are already reporting no Standard rooms at WL in the end of Jan. Seems to me that Disney in general is just more busy. With all the extra developer points they are giving away I can see it being harder to get in for at least the next year.
I hope we can get our first trip "home" in May booked without to much problem. We were hoping for AKV-Savanah View or OKW following my DS high school graduation.
