Just wondering if anyone has received an upgrade from standard at Wilderness Lodge lately?

Heading down in a few weeks, and secretly (well I guess it's not a secret now), for an upgrade....;)

Thanks!!

We got upgraded from a standard view to a pool view this week. Very appreciative, and we've had a tremendous time here, you will love it!

Thanks - we are very excited either way - although it would be fun get an upgrade!

Have a magical time!!

I've been upgraded a couple of times from standard. I requested a king bed. There are no king bed rooms in the standard category. I didn't realize when booking. When I checked in and requested the king bed they've been able to move me. Last time was a ground level room near the VWL quiet pool.

It was also an accessible room (roll in shower/no tub).

We just returned from a trip to WL and were given a corner room with a balcony plus an extra window. The balcony overlooked the woods and the other window overlooked the pool. Besides the nice view the blanket was dirty, the activities at pool for kids were poor and we were disappointed and would not go back. We will stick with our all time favorite which is Beach Club.

we've been upgraded all three times we stayed there from standard to courtyard, we never made any room request, not sure if that had anything to do with it, we love the WL! Good luck!!

We stayed at the WL three times and did not get a free upgrade on any of those occasions. The first time I booked a standard room and while I know a lot of people like them, we weren't happy (truck fumes on balcony were overpowering, lots of truck noise, right by dumpster) so I went down and offered to pay for a woods room upgrade. They upgraded me for free to what they warned me didn't have much of a view...we didn't care that we looked out on a rooftop, it was better than before! The next two times I booked a woods view to begin with.

On our first visit it seemed like everyone posting to the DIS was getting a free upgrade from standard at the WL, so I was actually sort of disappointed when I didn't. Stupid, I know. So I would advise not getting your hopes up. If you get one, it will be a pleasant surprise. Since you're going to be going at a relatively slow time of year, if you get a standard and don't like it, you should be able to switch.

Sorry to hear that - hope it was just a fluke and all your future visits to Disney Resorts (not the Lodge) are good to you!! ;)

Thanks for the warning about your standard - noise would be frustrating, but I draw the line at toxic fumes

I will take your advise and be happy if I get a clean, decent room. Looking forward to the atmosphere and proximity to MK!

Oh, and thanks everyone else who posted - love to hear the positives too!!

Two years ago we booked a "Woods View" room and were told at check-in that we were being upgraded to a courtyard view. We got an inner courtyard view with a great view of the pool.

On our visit last week, we had booked a "Standard View," because my wife didn't want to pay extra for a view. On the advice of DISboard members, I had requested "North Wing/High Floor" to hopefully be able to see Wishes at MK.

On check-in, we were given our room assignment. (I later found out that this room was on the South Wing overlooking the lobby and the rooftops.) I asked the CM if they had been able to meet our room request, but they apparently had no record of it. She did say, though, that Wishes is very difficult to see now because of the trees. In any event, she then offered a room on the North Wing, which we were all ready to take--when we told that a room was also available on the South Wing with a "pool view." We jumped at that, and thanked them profusely.

We ended up with an absolutely spectacular view overlooking the inner courtyard. I was just thrilled with the room and the view of the pool and waterfall. Every morning, we'd sit on our balcony watching the ducks swim around in the pool. In fact, I don't think I would be happy without this view in the future, so we may just pay for it up front for future visits. (I wonder if this is why they give the upgrades.)

P.S. It just occurred to me that I was sitting on that balcony watching the ducks yesterday morning. :sad1:

Thanks for that info...we'd love the "ducky view" too...enjoy the rest of your vacation!! :wizard:

Just back and happy to report that we were given an upgrade overlooking the stream/pool area (courtyard) over our "standard" booking. Gorgeous, and now I ALWAYS want that view!

Didn't ask for an upgrade, but did have two celebrations noted on the reservation - an anniversary and birthday. :wizard:

If the hotel isn't booked to capacity I think most times you will be upgraded with out even asking. Why wouldn't they upgrade you??? It's good marketing.

Like you said Darla125...now you will always want that view. Next time if you go during a busy time of year the only way you will get that view is if you book it and pay for it.

We got upgraded when we were there in May. I had booked a standard view room and I was upgraded to a very nice room that overlooked the Villas pool. It was great! I didn't ask or anything, they just did it!

We were upgraded last year on our very first WL visit from a woods view regular room to a courtyard bunk bed room. Disney's marketing worked. We loved the room and the pool view so much that we just purchased VWL DVC points so that we can stay there every year. WL is one of our very favorite resorts. We just stayed there for one night last week to attend the halloween party, and can't wait to go back in May for a longer stay.
