Upgrades at HRH

Does anyone know if they ever offer free upgrades at HRH? A friend said he got a free upgrade to a suite at Universal, although I can't remember which hotel he stayed at.

We got one, AAA rate garden view to club level family suite, we are All Access members and Lowes first. Also had issues in the past so perhaps that was why they wanted to impress us on that visit.
It was great to have all that space, shame we were only there 1 night to experience it.

Off season helps when asking for upgrades. However, it never hurts to ask!

Not to take away from the OP but I have a question on upgrade as well.

Booked for a standard room and now my wife wants to upgrade to a kids suite.

Do I change my reservation now?
Do I wait till I arrive and see if a suite is available? (5/9-5-13)
Do I wait and chance that we'll be bumped up for free?

I would wait until you arrive. More than likely you won't get an upgrade like that for free...but you never know. Just ask if how much to upgrade to Kid's Suite and see what they offer you.

If you want the suite and want to pay for it, you need to book it. If you don't care that you might be stuck with the standard room, then don't do anything until you arrive.

Upgrades do happen, but they are more rare then common.

Our last visit at RPR they asked if I wanted to upgrade to a suite for $50 more per night. But that's the price for a Loews Gold Member.

I didn't mean to make it sound like I was looking for a freebie.
I'm going to upgrade just didn't know if I should do it now or wait till we arrived.

I'm going to wait till we check in.
If we get lucky great... if we don't no big deal.
