Upgraded through DCL?

This is for the people who have booked directly through DCL and were fortunate enough to be upgraded. I was just wondering at what point you found out that you were going to be upgraded?

Even though I had received my documents about 2 weeks prior, I then had a phone call a week before my cruise from DCL giving us an upgrade from a Cat. 9 to a Cat. 6, and that verandah was brilliant !!

Once we were notified by phone about 2 weeks before the cruise and once by mail about 3 months out. I think it's usually a last minute thing that happens.

We found out about our upgrade about 1 month before we sailed out. We booked a cat 12 gty and was upgraded to a cat 10 deluxe. We were not notified by phone. We just kept checking our reservation online. Sending some pixie dust your way for an upgrade.

We were notified by phone about 6 weeks out. Upgraded from a cat 8 to a cat 5.

Is there anything you can do to increase your odds of an upgrade? I highly, highly doubt this is an option for us as we are staying in a cat. 4 in July, but for future reference...

Quite simply...No! There is really nothing one can do but hope. Rule of thumb is to just book the Category you will be happy with. It would stink to book a lower category "wishing" for an upgrade and then not have it happen....upgrades are very random and there really are no tricks to getting one....it is hit or miss.
