Upgraded from Concierge to a suite at AKL?

Has anyone ever been upgraded from a concierge room to a suite at AKL? Just curious! We usually stay at WL, and they constantly upgrade guests if the rooms are available!

I paid a discounted rate to upgrade from a concierge room to a 1BR suite at check-in, and then they upgraded us to a 2BR suite for free.

A few notes about this and why I don't think it happens often:

1. It was my birthday, and I'm a repeat AKL concierge guest .

2. The second BR connected to the LR of the suite. The way it was set up it was not rentable as a guest room without the suite. So it was going to go empty anyhow.

3. Unless I'm very mistaken, the suites at the AKL are much different than those at the WL. They are larger and offer more amenities.

4. Like I said, I paid for the upgrade to the suite, the second bedroom was a "toss-in". I don't think that they give free upgrades to suites very often if at all. I also would never count on getting the extra bedroom, it will be pixie dust if it does, but I'd hate to have anyone plan a trip around it and be incredibly dissappointed if it doesn't.

Honestly, I'm just so happy to be finally visiting AKL and visiting in Concierge style!

Anne, did they charge you the full price for the 1 bedroom suite ? We are also repeat AKL concierge guests, the past 2 trips we had a 1 bedroom since we had 5 people. for next weeks trips we have 2 concierge rooms booked since there are 7 of us. Is the 2 bedroom, the 1 bedroom with a regular concierge room with 2 beds? I guess the door by the powder room is the one that opens into the 2nd bedroom. We love AKL concierge.

I'm sure you don't want to hear my thoughts on Bill. We had asked for 2 connecting rooms on the concierge floor. I don't know if this was all that was available. When we checked in the room was not ready, still not ready by3, then 4. At that time I asked at the desk what the problem was and they said they would see if we could get into 1 of the 2 rooms. The CM came back and said we could get into 1 and someone took us up to the room connecting to the suite. I said are you sure this is right and they said yes. It was an amazing surprise!!! It was Christmas time and there was a decorated tree in the suite. Of course now my kids think we should stay there again. If only I could win the lottery. We have never recieved balloons, cakes, upgrades-just that 1 time---but it was sooo much better than any other pixie dust surprise. Beth
