We have planned a major budget vacation.

Staying for 5 nights at All Star Sports beginning August 15. Bought the 2-day minimum tickets. Getting QSDP for free. We are using our non-expiring tickets from last years vacation (with water park and more option).

DS will turn 10 in January. He eats like an adult. I decided to book him as a 10 year old. It made a $24 difference in the pricing of the vacation.

I'm so happy. I know DS will be much happier eating from the adult menu. And for $24, it's totally worth it.

Anyone else ever done this?

I haven't.

You are fine doing this, Disney doesn't care.

I'm sure your son will be happy with the options. There aren't as many options for the kids meals and they are on the small side for most 8 and 9 yr olds.

Now that they are only giving QSDP at the values, it might not be worth it so much for families that want to upgrade one or two children on the DDP. They could probably get a moderate resort for the same price as upgrading to the DDP.

many, many, many people have reported doing this...no problem whatsoever. You're paying the difference so not an issue from any standpoint. A lot of people upgrade their 7-9 year olds either because the kids won't eat the usual Disney kids meal offerings (nuggets, crustables, etc.) or because the kids meals are too small. Enjoy your vacation:thumbsup2

I wish I saw this two weeks ago. We were on the DDP for the last week. He was thrilled that his brother was not feelling well enought to eat. That way he got both servings, especially at the Pepper Market (?) CSR where they only gave him 1/2 of the small pizza.

Course, the cost the OP reports is just the price difference between a child's ticket & an adult ticket...unless you had free dining last week, it would have cost you more (if you're paying for the dining plan, you'd have to pay the additional cost for adult ticket & adult dining plan)

OP here. This is what made it worth it to do for this trip. Didn't actually have to pay the difference between the child and adult per day cost of the dining plan. I wouldn't upgrade DS to adult in that case, because I would rather just pay OOP for those times when I couldn't make the kids meals work.

I'm glad to hear that this idea isn't a problem. When I was talking to the CM, she didn't quite get why I wanted to do this...:confused3

I did this for our upcoming trip, we arent' going during free dining, and we are doing the DxDDP, so I am paying the difference. My son will be 10 in August, he eats more then I do some times I couldn't stand to see him eating all those same foods off the kids menu for a week again. I know he will be much happier this year, it was worth the extra cost for me and for him to have more options.

We have upgraded our DD10 for the past 3 years. Finally she's 10!!:):) She loved having all the options of adult menu.

So glad to hear about this option! My DS is 8, but eats like a 12 year old! He will be thrilled to know that we can upgrade and that he won't be forced to eat chicken nuggets, pizza and mac & cheese all week long!

I wonder if it is too late to change our reservations. One of my boys is ten this trip and I am sure my 8yo is going to be jealous. We are going during free dining in October.

I changed the age of my 3 boys for this trip on free dining - I figured for the cost of less than $100.00 for an 8 day trip, it was worth it to have better options than the standard pizza, burger, etc...

This will be our second time upgrading our DS9, we did it back in Oct and he loved it!! Great deal especially if you are only purchasing the required 2 day tix. :)

I'm wondering if I can still upgrade my 6 year old for this as well.

We already paid for our trip in full on July 31st. Going in mid-Sept during free dining.

Should I phone to upgrade now and pay the difference?

Or wait until we are there and then upgrade and pay the difference?

I know I can upgrade his park ticket from child to adult easily enough once in the park, but will that also upgrade his dining at the same time?

I would call to see what they say. I would think you need to do it before you arrive since it affects the dining plan. My dd is going on 5 and will eat a chesseburger almost every day. Everytime we go out to eat she wants that.

you can still call in now to upgrade your child. I paid my august trip in full in July and called 2 days ago to upgrade my child to adult meal plan. I wish I have done this before the ticket price increase. It cost me $71 to upgrade my daughter (ticket price difference plus $10/day ddp upgrade) for 4 days

OP here...

I would call ASAP to get your children upgraded if you want to. I did this soon after we booked our ressie. I called in to talk to a CM and as soon as I realized they were having to rebook the whole reservation, I just made a second reservation online and canceled the first. Just a warning...maybe you'll get a CM that knows how to do this a different way, but the one I talked to didn't. There was still plenty of availability for us so it was easy to rebook...

So how did they work out the ticket pricing upgrade cost? When we paid July 31st - it was the old ticket price. Now there's a new price.

So did Disney charge you the difference from the old child to the new adult? Or old child to old adult, then old adult to new adult?

Oye... I'm confusing myself!

Has anyone that has flights in their package upgraded their child? Did they change the child personal info? We would like to possibly upgrade DD but really don't want trouble at the airport!

I am going to be attempting that shortly. I'll post back and let you know! (Wish me luck!)
