The difference is the current gate price of the tickets you want minus what you paid for the tickets you have.

Here is a question I have very similiar. Do they bridge the price. I bought a two day single park for two Saturday's for my niece because her ap is onto good on there Saturday's like mine is. The rest of the year hers will work when there on Saturday. Anyway. If she uses it at the gate, goes in and then we want to upgrade it, do they bridge the price like they do at WDW. So all I have to pay is the difference to add the park hopping on for the two days.

No bridging. The tickets are supposed to be encoded with the price you paid. There have been reports of people buying tickets with the buy 3, get a 4th day tickets from Orbitz and getting the price of a 4 day. That could be because Orbitz paid Disney for 4 days tickets and is selling them for less. This is the exception and you can't count on it.

Unfortunately, the best answer you can get is "sometimes". They do bridge, but it varies depending on the ticket type, who you originally bought the ticket from, etc. I haven't really figured out a consistent pattern yet...

Another Dis'er posted back in July of 2014, that aRes tickets do not entirely price bridge. I would go with the assumption that you'll only get the price you paid for the ticket.
