We will be using regular 2 day, 2 park park hopper tickets (for blackout dates for the SoCal Select APs next month). We are purchasing them through my DH's company so we will get a small discount amount and pay $207 each. We will be in the park on a Sat & Sun

We will be taking DS & his GF who both live in SoCal. Would they be able to upgrade their tickets at the end of Sunday (after using the regular tickets for the two blackout days, but before the end of the second day) and apply the $207 towards the cost of the AP? It would be a ridiculously low amount of $ to get the APs.

It used to be able to be done, years ago. I was wondering if this is still allowed, or if Disney has disallowed this.

Thanks!

If the tickets you buy need to be exchanged for regular park tickets, you should be able to apply the full amount of the 2-day hoppers to the price of the SoCal select AP's. When I upgraded to a premium AP, I had originally bought a 4-day hopper through Orbitz at the 3-day price. They applied $289 to the AP instead of the $265 that I paid. My partner has the select AP. We just went to both parks today. It's a great deal if you're good with not going on weekends and during so many other block out periods.

Hmmm.....

Let me see if I can try again LOL.

I HAVE 4 2 day Park Hopper Tickets. We will be using them on a Sat & Sun. Those days are Blackout days for the SoCal Select Pass. I paid $207 each.

2 of the people in our party live in SoCal. Disney used to let you apply the full value paid for your ticket to upgrading to an annual pass as long as the ticket was still valid. As in, you did not leave the last day and then come back after the ticket was fully used. This allowed people to work around blackout days by buying a ticket, using it on a blackout day (or weekend) and then upgrading. That was several years ago.

I was wondering if Disney still allowed this. The price difference for the two SoCal people would be tiny if they allowed $207 to be applied to $289 (??) I think? To upgrade to an AP. Plus they would have had the two full days in the parks.

I hope that makes a bit more sense. :scratchin

Thank you!

Yes, this is still allowed, again so long as you do the upgrade during the day that your final day is used or before that.

But, everyone that upgrades must now be a So Cal Resident and they are VERY strict about this, you MUST have ID with a So Cal address, unless you are a child under 18. Anyone can upgrade to the Deluxe or higher level passes though.

How cool! :cool1: Thank you! Only the two SoCal residents would be upgrading, however I am concerned about ID. Do you happen to know what would be considered ok? Their Drivers Licenses do not have SoCal addresses, however they both have leases, most likely utility bills, paycheck stubs, that type of stuff, because they really do live there.

Or is there somewhere I can look to see what is required?

Thanks. Very much appreciated!

California drivers license or state ID with current address is required (current ID with change of address from is usually ok as well, as long as it is a California ID). Considering you must file a change of address with the DMV after moving this shouldn't be difficult.

You may occasionally get someone who would accept something else, but that would be pixie dust.

The so cal annual pass is only available for renewals right now. Per their site. They have a so-cal select which is less days available. My daughter just moved to so cal so I had to check. You need a legal photo ID and they do check each person. If they moved they should have a current one with DMV. I don't think they will take a lease etc but it doesn't hurt to call and check.
Good luck!!

If you already have the tickets, read the terms on the back and make sure that they don't say that they're not upgradable. Some of the discounted tickets aren't.

Sorry, I thought the part about blocked days seemed obvious. If you have a paid admission, and have already entered the park (blocked AP day or not), you can still upgrade. The whole point of the upgrade is to use the tickets first, and then apply the value of those tickets to the upgrade. It doesn't matter if the day you upgrade is a blackout day, because you've already paid to be there, and used that admission.

As to the ID requirement for SoCal APs. Anything that shows the current address is acceptable, along with the valid ID or Drivers License. For example, we used the change of address conformation from the post office for one of our upgrades to the same AP. This worked fine.

Well it sounds like it would not work except for the above quote :confused3

They both have aiD, but not with SoCal addresses. As recent college grads, they do not want rotating apartments on their Drivers Licenses. They would of course have, dunno, just about everything else one would have when living somewhere. Their (former) college ID might fall into the correct zip code, however I am not sure of that. They have those IDs as well.

So yes on valid picture IDs, no on them with the SoCal address. Lots of other things I imagine that does have their respective SoCal addresses on that they could show.

Is there somewhere that "officially" lists what is acceptable? I could not find it. :confused3

Oh, and I knew you USED to be able to use the black out dat & upgrade, just did not know that it was still allowed :cool1: too many trips to WDW to be current on the DL stuff. Thanks!!!!!! :cheer2:

That doesn't really make sense as CA does not reissue a new DL when you change your address. You CAN pick up a change of address card from the DMV, but it is not a state requirement to carry this AFAIK.

If they have utility bills or a lease they can probably use that, I have heard of people being successful in the past. The worst that can happen is they say no.

Thank you! Much appreciated. I know that I have not always gotten a new Drivers Licence when I move,, and the DMV change of address form :confused3:confused3:confused3 must be something new. I have never even heard of it. And I have lived in CA my entire life. And I am old :rotfl2: which, of course, could explain why I have never heard of it!

So confusing!

Thanks for all of your help! If anyone has any other ideas, let me know!
