Upgrade Question?

What is the average for an upgrade purchased at port? Also what are the chances of 3 rooms being upgraded in Sept.? I really would like a cat. 6 room, but we're going to go with either a cat. 9 or 10 room instead. How important is the ocean view if you're not in your room much? There is so much to putting a cruise together! Also if you are upgraded how much of an upgrade would you get usually?

One more question.. would it bet better to go on the Sept. 3rd cruise (over Labor day), or the next week? East or West? Ok, so more than one more question! I have tons of them! I pre-ordered my passporter lastnight and can't wait for it to come!!

Does anyone have an answer for me on this? Just checking to see if everyone saw this post?

From everything I have read on this board about upgrades, they are very rare. Book the room you want & then count your self fortunate if you do get upgraded.

How important is an ocean view? Well that is an individual decision, if you really like it then it is highly important. If you could careless if you only see water when your out of your room then it is not very important.

Don't worry seems the more I know the less I understand about this crusing thing ;)

We paid somewhere around $298 at the port to upgrade from a Cat. 8 to a Cat. 5 on a four-day cruise this past November. That was less than half of what the difference was with an advance booking. I don't know how common it is to be able to do that, but I have heard that it's hit or miss. As a result, I wouldn't rely on one cabin being available, much less three, but you never know!

After doing that, we had no second thoughts about booking a Cat. 5 for our next cruise in March/April 05. We absolutely LOVED the verandah.

FYI: To purchase an upgrade at the port you'll need to see a supervisor, not one of the CMs at the general check-in counter.. They were located in the stations at the far right of the check in counter as you are looking at it (next to the check-in line for Castaway Club members).

What cruise will you be on?

We upgraded at port for our last cruise -- december 14-18 4-day cruise. We went from a cat11 to cat8 for 2 adults total of $252. Our cruise wasn't full, though and I think that makes a difference.

Always book the category you think you'd be happy in.

Also, if you think you would be happier in a different category, change now because the price will only keep increasing once you get closer to cruise date. And the Western is slightly more expensive because there is one more port of call to pay for.

We'll be on the September 3rd 7-day Eastern! Got a CAT5 for $3090.70 including taxes, transfers, insurance, etc. That is an AWESOME price!

Cool! I think that's the cruise we will be on.. not sure yet. We are trying to decide if Labor Day will full or not. What do you think? We won't be able to put a deposit down for almost a month.. any clue how fast these prices go up?

It's kind of exciting finding someone who'll be on the same possible cruise! I have 4 kids ages by then will be DD13, DD11, DS6 & DS3 (my sister will be on it with her 3 kids too DS15, DS3 & DS 1 1/2).

I've never cruised in September, so I'm not sure how popular Labor Day is. The prices are super-low, though. We were originally booked for Mar '05, but had to switch to Sept. We booked that this past January and within a few weeks of booking the price for that cruise (cat8) went up $420. I'm glad I locked in the low rate for September. I just switched to September today. Maybe someone with more experience with September cruises will be able to answer your question.

BTW -- it will be me and DH (we have no children as of right now ;) but hope to some day soon).

After hurricane Floyd ruined my vacation in 1999 I am afraid to plan anything in Sept. I was told so many times, Oh don't worry Disney has never closed due to hurricanes. 2 days into my vacation I was asked to leave the campground and stay at a hotel ( which I did not have money for), or just leave. With the warnings of "we don't know if your van and camper will be here when this is over." We opted to head North with the rest of Florida.

There were no hotels until Nashville and we ended up in a state park in North Georgia.

Just my unfortunate luck, hubby and I always have something strange happen while on vacation, ever since our honeymoon.

I was just doing some comparing:

September 4-11, 2004
CAT 5, 2 adults = $3301.20
CAT 11, 2 adults = $2121.20

September 3-10, 2005
CAT 5, 2 adults = $3190.70
CAT11, 2 adults = $2050.70

So there's not too much of a price difference. You may want to compare the categories you were interested in. Others may have more of an increase.

I booked a Cat 11 for April 22 back in January and When I got my traval info I was bump up to a cat 8.
