upgrade question?

With 32 days to go to our Oct 5th sailing, the web site still shows alot of empty cabins on the Magic. Does anyone know how upgrades work? Will Disney just "pick out of a hat" and upgrade? Should I call and check into the upgrades myself? Would upgrade disounts be greater at the port? I will be happy in my current cabin, but would always shoot for the stars if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

Free upgrades are the exception and not the rule. They do not automatically upgrade folks to higher level cabins UNLESS they have demand for the lower cabin categories.

You can always ask at the port the cost to upgrade to a higher cabin; several folks report success in getting an upgrade for a reasonable cost.

keep your fingers crossed. When I got home from work today there was a message from DCL upgrading me from cat.6 to cat.4.
Tomorrow is 2 weeks 2 days before I sail.
I thought the $99 deal was great but $99 fro cat 4 is out of this world great.
