Hi,
I am a DVC member and booked a weekend gateway in January at OKW.

Now I am thinking about booking the package deal for free upgrade to hopper and waterpark. I know I would get four day hopper and water park tickets with the package. But are these tickets same as my room key? Do they expire after 4 days? Can I upgrade them to non expire?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Jane

I think you can get the tickets for any length of time and I think if you don't use them they would not expire. The rule is they expire 14 days after first use so if you don't use them at all they won't expire or at least that's how I think it is. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks! I hope that is the case.

But I just spoke to my AAA travel agent and she said everyone has to get the same tickets. I asked her if I can purchase the non-exp option at the park seperately. She said no. My situration is that my husband probably does not want to go to the park with us every day. I have left over pass from previous visit. He can use those so that I can save his ticket. Or I can purchase the non-exp option for him if he end up having days left over. But I don't want to do it for all of us.

Has any one done that before? I was told that the room key is the ticket to the park. I really don't like that. I am afraid that once the visit is over, the tickets are invalid.

When you book a package, everyone on the reservation has to have the same options, i.e. ticket length and options, and dining plan or not. But, you can individually upgrade those tickets at the gate. You can book your package with a one-day base ticket or ten-day WPF&M no expiration ticket regardless of the length of your resort stay. You could upgrade one to an AP if you want.

In your case, if you buy a base ticket package, you will get upgraded to the hopper and WPF&M option for each ticket. If your husband uses old tickets and the new ticket is never used, it will not expire. Tickets only expire 14 days after first use. Even though your room key won't work any longer, you can still use it as park admission. Or, you can ask at the check-in desk to have your tickets put on a separate card from your room key.

For more information, go to the Theme Parks Attractions & Strategies board here on the DIS and there is a sticky at the top about MYW Ticket Information. It is written by a Disney ticketing CM, so the information is completely accurate. I highly suggest reading it.

I read the ticket thread. It's very helpful. I was trying to figure out how much they would charge me for upgrade by checking the price difference. I printed the ticket price list from a web site and I was so confused after doing lots of math.

Now I know that the water park and hopper option is just one price upgrade. So all I have to think is the no-expire option. By the way, where can I do the upgrade once we get there? It is nice to be able to upgrade separately. But kids will not be happy if we spend hours doing the upgrade there.

I also like the idea of separate room keys with tickets. My kids love to have their own keys. But I sure don't want them to lose their tickets.

Thanks a lot for your help,

Jane

Jane:

Tickets on the key are as replaceable as the room key. The ticket is NOT actually "ON" the key.. it's a data record in a computer system. The "number" on the key references a computer record of what's still left on that ticket. The record of the ticket numbers is attached to your reservation.

So.. if they lose their room key, just getting another one will mean they get their tickets back! Easy!

If they lose their separately printed tickets, you'll need to have the record of the numbers off the backs of the ticket. Most times if you separated the tickets from a package, this should still be on your reservation. But it may not be. So, actually, from a worrying about lost tickets standpoint, keeping them on the room key is actually a better idea.

Ticket upgrades can be done at just about any Guest Services office in the parks, or at the entrance to the parks or at Downtown Disney. Generally these upgrades can not be done at your resort.

Hope this helps!
