Upgrade or not if I get a discount??

I am hoping for a discount to come out for our stay.

We are staying at POP and I am hoping to be able to use a discount there and really wouldn't want to change to an All star resort because my daughter chose Pop....but if I could get a moderate for the same money or less or AKL for just a few dollars more I would consider it. AKL would tickle my daughter pink, I just can't afford it without a deep discount.

This is our first ever trip and I am unsure if she would be happy with an upgrade to a moderate, if I thought she would I would do it in a heartbeat and surprise her. She is 14 and this is her birthday trip, actually her birthday is coming up a few days after we get back but Fall break is that particular week. I would be dancing around if I could get an upgrade for no more money.

I just can't decide whether I should stay where I am at and save the money or upgrade if I get the chance. Any advice??? I like the idea of a hottub and refrig. and nicer pools. But I do want to try a tyedye cheesecake.

We faced this dilemma a few years ago...the children (they were 7 and 9 at the time) chose AS Movies for our trip. We were happy with that, but we were offered a free upgrade to Saratoga Springs (with the dining plan too). My husband and I decided to take it...we told the kids that Disney overbooked the hotel and asked us to switch (not really a lie). My youngest was sad about it, but once he saw the pictures on the Disney website and on allearsnet, he was starting to like it. We told him we would go to AS Movies next time (but when the next time rolled around they didn't chose this one!).

Only you will know how your child will react to a change...can you show her some of the other resorts that you are interested in on the internet and see what she thinks? Another option that you could do is spend one night room only reservation (at the end of your trip) at POP...your park tickets would still be valid (as long as it is within 14 days), only if you are on the DDP the package for that would have ended. We did a split stay on our last trip to acomodate everyone's wants (one wanted AS Music, one wanted AS Sports). It was little bit of a hassle, but everyone was happy!

You will have a ball with whatever you chose!

But I do want to try a tyedye cheesecake.

Tyedye cheesecake is at most 8 minutes out of your entire vacation. If you have the money to upgrade to a bigger room in a resort with better amenities, I am sure that she will be fine with the change. I know that I would personally choose to stay at POR, POFQ, CSR, or AKL over POP! I love POP, but the other resorts I listed are much more comfortable and have less of a kiddy motel feel to them. I am sure that she could be talked into enjoying what these resorts have to offer. ;)

Happy Planning! :wizard:

I agree, no matter which resort you stay at, you're at Disney!!

BUT......some people find it hard to go "down" to a moderate or value after they've stayed at a Deluxe....so if your typical budget would always be a value or moderate, you may want to be careful about upgrading beyond your budget just because you got a good rate. Of course, "I" couldn't follow my own advice, so why should you??? If I had the chance to go deluxe, I'd be looking at GF with my tongue hanging out like Pluto!

I wouldn't do anything without talking to your daughter first. I know that if I chose something, and then someone else changed it for whatever reason without asking me, I would be at best hurt, and at worst, mad. Why wouldn't your daughter be as well? Especially if you aren't even sure she'd like the upgrade? Then, if she doesn't want to switch, well, you're still at Disney. I'd hate to be anywhere with a 14 year old in a snit (and boy, do they know how to throw snits!)

Thanks for reminding me about snits !!! Oh yeah. I know she would be happy with AKL she already said so. I will wait and see what discounts come out.

I'm debating the same thing. We've stayed at Pop and ASMo before, and we like the value resorts just fine. I'd like to upgrade to a moderate for our Thanksgiving trip, but DH & I decided yesterday that we're going back in May, so I'm thinking I'd be better off to stay where I am and save the $ if we get a discount, and put that towards our May trip.

My boys like Pop, but they're younger than your dd, so that probably doesn't help much.

Two years ago we were booked at POP for our first family trip. When I read here about the discount that was coming out we sat down as a family and watched the planning video and decided we would try CSR if the money was right. We ended up at CSR for less money than POP would've cost.

This trip in October, we're booked at POP again. We'll see what happens....
