upgrade odds hurt by AKL relocations?

Now first let me say that I understand that the AKL guests are very bummed out about being relocated. Speaking as a person who has never been upgraded, though, I wonder if this hurts my own odds of finally getting an upgrade this time. I know there are some really nice standard view rooms at YC so I am hoping for one of those--my TA even requested we have a nice view, not a parking lot, I was there when she booked the package--but have a secret hope that I would get bumped up to water view. Now I'm wondering if any empty water view rooms will go to people bumped from AKL, rather than bumping YC guests up and giving them standard view rooms.
What do you think? Will AKL refugees get the best rooms available, minimizing the amount of upgrading going on?

Free upgrades are just that a little bit of majic at check-in having to move those other guests and force them to stay somewhere else on property with no Sister resort with the same feature (i.e. no other Savana view rooms exist anywhere else at WDW period and that is the feature these guests booked to get)

Disney has to keep these guests happy and that will mean confirming them into upgraded accomadations since that is all Disney can do for no additional expense to Disney. Obviously taking those upgrades out of the pool of all available upgrades and slightly increasing occupancy rates at all of the other Deluxe resorts has to drive down the chances for other guests to get a "free" upgrade.

I think it will effect the free upgrade at check in possibility...luckily...I should be fine:)
I just hope I get a chair by the pool:)

This is the question to which there is no answer....maybe your upgrade will go to an AKL refugee, but maybe that room would have been sold to someone paying the full price for the view anyways, or maybe you would have gotten a cranky CM who couldn't be bothered to look for upgrades. Maybe they assign upgrades not because water view rooms are still open but because standard view rooms are overbooked, the list of ifs goes on and on. We have stayed at the BC when it was practically empty and been put in a tiny standard room with a lovely view of the dumpsters...conversely we got bumped to 14th floor of the CR when the hotel was sold out. Like the OP said you have been before and not been upgraded, and there were no AKL refugees then...

I think the bottom line is it really is pixie dust!! If it happens it happens. Never expect (even in secret)...it invariably leads to let down.

Hoping a little pixie dust finds you!

Maybe your odds of an upgrade are better because the standard view rooms are overbooked because the had to move a bunch of people from standard view at AKL to standard view at XYZ resort....

Is that glass half full or half empty? :confused3

Keep in mind...

The "upgrades" you see here give a HIGHLY biased view of your chances of getting an upgrade.

Reading the DIS you think "Everyone but ME has gotten an upgrade" Nope, the real truth is MOST folks don't get upgraded, but no one posts "I got what I paid for" So you see "upgraded" everywhere and think "It happens ALL the time." Not really..

Absolutely right on! We have always gotten what we paid for...except for the first time we stayed at the Poly in the 90s. We had booked 2 GVCL rooms and when we checked in, my mom asked for a balcony or patio so that she could rest after her dialysis treatments. They didn't have any available BUT gave us 2 rooms on the 2nd floor room that overlooked the lagoon and had a perfect view of the castle. It was beautiful to see the castle early in the morning AND late at night. Only one time and I just look at it as a gift from the Disney pixie dust department since it was my mom last trip to wdw before she passed away.

Now this trip I am requesting 1st or 3rd floor because we would like to just read on the patio or balcony. But we're just glad we have this time at Disney together so if it's another 2nd floor room...we'll live. :wizard:
