Since booking my first cruise for 10/31/04, I have been wondering if I should up grade from a Cat. 9 to a 7 or 6. I think the veranda would be nice since we are sailing with DS who is just 20 months. So we will be spending at least a few hours each afternoon in our room for naps. My questions is should I just call now and upgrade or would it be cheaper to wait until we get to the boat? Thanks so much this list is awsome!

IF something is available, it is usually cheaper to upgrade at the pier but you take a chance on an acceptable room being available. It helps if you are a party of 3 (since all rooms hold 3, not all hold 4)

Thanks for the reply. We are a party of three so that works out great! Also does anyone have an idea how much it would be to upgrade from a 9 to a 7 at the port? Thanks again.

just to let you know we sailed halloween 03 and it was a full ship. If you t hink you want a better room I would reccommend doing it prior to sailing.

I was on the 9/27 Wonder sailing. I had a res for a cat 9 and they quoted me $289 to upgrade to a cat 7 at the pier.

Thanks everyone! I think I will take my chances and wait to see if we can upgrade at the port. Since this is our first cruise we won't know what we are missing if they are booked and if they have the rooms then we will save a little money by waiting. Thanks!

dzneprincess - How was the Halloween Cruise? Did they do alot for Halloween? How were the prizes for the costume contest. We are thinking of entering it. Thanks so much.

Halloween was great. There were costume contests and parties. BUT be forewarned DCLS trick or treating was lame! " GINGER" here on the DIS was a veteran Halloween cruiser, and she arranged a DIS board trick or treating for DIS kids. It was awesome. Her is a link to another ? about halloween cruising.. http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=657670

jbaby13,
If you are cruising on the Magic this Halloween, have you checked out the cruise meets boards for the Magic's Halloween sailing? It seems like there are a great group of DISers going with you. I think I also remember reading that they are organizing a special trick or treating for DIS kids. If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to check it out. I know of at least one follow DISer (taswira) who is a true veteran of Halloween cruises. We were on the same Halloween cruise with her and her nephew a couple of years ago and she is great! I'm she will be able to answer most if not all of any questions you might have regarding cruising DCL at Halloween.

Have a 'frightenly' great time!

We upgraded to a verandah for our first cruise (but at home prior to sailing) and it was $400 but we only booked 4 months out so the cost difference wasn't that great at that point.

However, with both of our kids being young then too, we ALL took naps some days! There is so much going on non-stop that you enjoy the chance to lie down and rest too. We took turns w/the kids and used the deck 4 chairs to relax on or the gym to work out while the other rested w/the kids.

If we are able to upgrade at pier, will the baskets that we ordered from shirley and our stateroom cel. be moved to our new stateroom promptly?

I would love to know this too! I hope someone has experience with this. :)

Define "promptly"? I have found it easier to go to the old room to pick up my luggage & castaway club gift rather than wait for it to be moved. I don't know when the stateroom hosts get word of the change, but you might be the first one to tell them.

How do you get in the "old" stateroom to get your stuff?

The luggage sits outside all of the doorways until someone takes it inside. Assuming that the person newly assigned to the cabin knew it wasn't theirs, it would be outside of the old cabin

I was wondering about the gift baskets that would be inside the cabin?

I was also wondering about the gift baskets and the stateroom celebrations. Can you get in your old stateroom to move them to your new stateroom?
