hi. wondering what the typical upgrade price is at the port to upgrade? I have an OV and I see that at 30 days out, my sailing still has 3 Verandah assigned cabins left and also Verandah GTY for 4 persons. We are on an European sailing, but I would take answers from Carib. and Alaska, as well. Anyone have an idea of the approx. upgrade cost at the port to Verandah? Wondering if it is worth it for me to go over in the AM and try.
Current Verandah pricing is $11K, it was $8.5K when we booked. Does that make the upgrade less likely? We have an OV for $6K and would only be willing to spend about $500 to upgrade to a Verandah. Giving the current pricing, if there is a low chance of a Verandah for only $500 more, I'll just skip the trip over in the AM and sightsee with the family until lunch. I am guessing it's not worth the effort?

Only the Magic is in Europe, and Cat V is not an option on that ship. The smallest upgrade option on the Magic is to a Cat T.

Do you mean category V (concierge level) or are you using "V" to mean "verandah" (categories 4-7)?

There is no set schedule of fees to upgrade at port. Nobody has figured out DCL's formula to price these. There is a thread floating around where people have posted what they were charged, so that may help you. It's dependent upon the specific category you are booked as well as the specific category upgrading to -- specific category meaning the number/letter combo.

If you upgrade now, prior to embarkation, you will upgrade with the price of that category as of the day you initially booked; not today's current fares. I don't believe you can upgrade to a VGT as those must be new bookings requiring you to cancel your current reservation and lose whatever penalty may be involved. "GTY" simply means DCL isn't allowing guests to select staterooms in that specific category any longer.

Enjoy your cruise!

thank you. yes-meant Verandah (corrected in text) for Copenhagen sailing. Also, DCL rep told me that I could go alone at 11am to check about upgrade and that family did not have to be there, and that they could come at 1pm. I would plan to go alone @10am, check in, see about upgrade, then rejoin family sightseeing and everyone come at 1pm. Our port arrival time is 1pm. Will that work? Would they make me wait until 1pm for PAT? Does everyone have to be there?

I honestly don't know about doing an upgrade if the full party hasn't checked in; you check-in prior to upgrading. I'm not familiar with the European ports. The PAT was instituted to control crowds, primarily at Port Canaveral with the larger ships. It typically is a moot point with the Magic/Wonder and passengers enter whatever time they arrive, but I can't say for sure about your embarkation port.

Enjoy your cruise!

We upgraded from a Deck 2 window to a 5b verandah on the Magic 9 night fjords cruise last year. Cost was $615.

I wondered if the DCL rep was correct. Thank you, Birdie dog. $600ish is our price point. Was it a cabin that slept 4? Maybe our strategy will be to all go to the port at 10:30, drop our luggage, check in, try to upgrade, then go back and sightsee. Just confirming that we could check in and then go back into Copenhagen until 3ish (with all aboard @ 4pm)?

I don't know how many it slept. We only had two but I was in line early and requested the best possible balcony room available. I don't know if you can check in and leave again. We spent 3 days prior to the cruise touring and boarded early. I think we arrived around 1030 and I rushed through check in to get to the supervisors desk. I was very early in the line.
