Has anyone ever gotten an upgraded room at kidani or any hotel? I could only afford a standard view for our next trip and my kids are very disappointed. I was thinking of asking for an upgrade when I get there but I am not sure how to go about it. Has anyone ever tried to get an upgrade before? success?

Generally, there are no upgrades available for staying on points. Despite that, some haved reported on rare occassions being upgraded, such as from a standard to preferred view at BWV, but it appears those occur when the type of room you reserved is itself not available when you arrive (such as rooms taken out of service). In essence, do not expect an upgrade but there is at least some very small chance you could get one.

That's what I figured but I might ask anyways. Thanks

Be very careful. Some have reported asking for an upgrade and then finding out later that they were charged the extra points. Timeshares are not like cash hotels where upgrades are concerned. If you get an upgrade it will NOT be because you asked but because there was a problem with the room type that you had booked.

I highly doubt you'll get the upgrade merely by asking. DVC resorts operate at nearly 100% capacity, which likely means in this case is that someone would be out a savanna view room as a result of you being upgraded.

If you're worried about getting the parking lot view at Kidani, why not book Jambo? All the standard view rooms there are pool view. It's not savanna view, but it's better than the parking lot!

I didn't think it would work. I thought of someone getting an upgrade here but I might have been reading about someone paying with cash. It's really no big deal.

You do realize that there is plenty of opportunity to view the animals, even if you have a standard view, right? We have quit getting savannah view because we found that we really weren't watching the animals from our balcony nearly as much as we were from the public viewing areas. I think you are a great mom for taking your kids to such a wonderful resort. Please don't feel as if you are letting them down.

Thanks, you are right, I am happy to just be going! I just read a post on another board about someone who got an upgrade without even asking, and they charged him the points! changed my miond I'm not even asking!

There's a nice lounge next to the lobby on the 2nd floor where you can watch the animals. You can watch from inside or outside. I believe there were rocking chairs outside.

One of our favorite animal viewing spots at Kidani is at the Community Hall, we can also only afford the standard view. We spend a ton of time in the Community Hall, it is so nice. My kid love it there!
