upgrade 7 day park hopper plus to a 10 day MYW

We paid $336.56 for 7 day park hopper plus passes (2 adults...so $673.12)
We haven't used them yet. We have a May trip where we'll use 5 park days (hopping), but we're new DVC members, so we will be back!

Do you think it makes sense to upgrade these to a 10 day MYW hopper, plus options, no expiration? The 10 day passes are $401.51 (if we can figure out how to get the advance price while upgrading), which would be $802.02; or $414.29 (no advance price break), for a total of $828.58.

So essentally we'd get an extra 3 days and 1 extra option (a total of 6 park days and 2 options since it's for 2 of us), all which won't expire, for $128.90-155.46.

I don't think you get the advance purchase discount because the trade up of the old hopper plus passes is done at the gate (Guest Relations).

But the trade-up is still a good deal day-wise. You have invested $337. for each 7 day hopper plus pass which according to my secret formula* gives you 7 days @ $37. and 4 plusses @ $19. To upgrade you add $78. per pass ending up with a $414. investment giving 10 days @ $33. and 5 plusses @ $17.

Since the old pass is completely unused, you are not obliged to get non-expiration and all the old pass' featues on the new pass. But since you want non-expiration and plusses anyway, you can, depending on your schedule, use the plusses on the old pass prior to trading up and the trade up value will be the same.

If you do the trade up you will have 10 days under your belt at the git go. If you keep the old passes and buy new 10 day passes outright you will have 17 days under your belt. It is impossible for me to predict which scenario will, years from now, first cause you to buy a 5 or fewer day pass to finish a vacation which will turn that scenario into the loser.
