UPenn bound

My Dgranddaughter will attend UPenn this fall. She wants a refrigerator for dorm room. We live in south Texas and are not familiar with area. Are there places that rent compact refrigerators or should we buy one at Target up there? Target has one on sale. We are going to fly because of car driver's schedule. TIA

Home Depot carries a 3.5 cubic feet fridge that they commonly place on sale for $98. Yup can pay for it online and have it "shipped to store." I know there are a few HD locations near UPenn. It's definitely large enough for a dorm and is not as loud as some other ones we've tried. We keep one in our master bathroom upstairs when we have a newborn to store expressed milk and formula and I've been quite pleased with the performance. It's great for the price. I've not had great luck with one I purchased from Target.

I can't speak on what kind to buy, but there is a Target, Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot all within stone's throw of each other about five miles from campus.
At the end of the school year, students donate their refridgerators, TVs, microwaves, beds, ect for an huge yard sale for charity.

I can't recommend a fridge but congrats on her going to Penn. That's an awesome acomplishment!

My two are leaving this Fall for U Pitt and Ithaca College

With both schools a microfridge can be rented for the year. It is a setup that has a small microwave that sits atop the fridge.

UPenn will have a company that rents to their students also. Have her check all the info she has received from Penn. They usually through something in about the rentals.

Or, have her visit the student section of the UPenn website. She should be able to find something there also.

South Texas to UPenn, what a change in weather. We are from East Texas and have one headed to Syracuse.

We purchased a mini fridge for his undergrad degree, but each year had to find a place to store it for the summer. Wish we would have rented one there were places all over campus set up with available mini fridges. Would have been easier than hauling it around.

At my daughter's school it's $200 for the year … and that can be split with roommate. No need to worry about it breaking and storing in the summer.
