Updating Reservations

Refresh my memory, it's been a couple of years since I had to do this. My 180 day window is coming up in the next couple of weeks and I'm trying to get a Cali Grill ADR (dinner) for our 17th wedding anniversary but it will be our first day there-so exactly 180 days (this is also a Saturday). I realize my chance of getting a dinner ADR is probably slim but Im hoping our Disney travel agent is able to sprinkle some pixie dust on us. If I'm not able to get the ADR, my backup is FF (which is also a really good option, but could be booked too). If I end up booking something, then at some point see that Cali is available, do I have to cancel the first ADR before I book the new one? I'm planning on signing up for the ressie finder from Touring Plans per everyone's comments.

Assuming you are using the same MDE account, when you go to book a reservation at the same time as another reservation you already have in place, the app will ask you which reservation you want to keep. You do not need to cancel the first reservation ahead of time, but you would need to cancel it at that moment. The only way you could keep two different reservations at the same time would be to hold them under two different MDE accounts. I think you have a very good chance of getting a Cali Grill dinner reservation 180 days out. I have booked reservations there without issue at far less than 180 days. Touring Plans reservation finder is great if for some reason you strike out.

We just got a Saturday reservation at California Grill last wee at 180 days. It was earlier than I wanted 6 pm instead of 7:30.
Hopefully you have similar luck.

I recently booked Cali Grill dinner for July within the 60 day window, so there is hope!! I also find FF has a lot of availability. We've even gotten same day availability there. Are you on the dining plan? If not and if Cali and FF don't work out, consider bluezoo at the Dolphin (great seafood) or Capa at the Four Seasons WDW (amazing view!) as alternatives. Neither will be difficult to reserve.

If you can't get CG for the date you want, make a backup reservation then keep checking for availability. Best days: 29 days before trip, five days before trip, day before trip.

We had a California Grill dinner reservation and had to change it recently, at three months out there was availability. If you are persistant about checking the app you should be able to secure your reservation. I used the Touring Plan reservation finder for some of my hard to get times and it come up helpful for those.

If you can’t get CG for the day and time you want, I would make a backup reservation at FF using Open Table. You can cancel at the last minute with OT with no penalty. So you could even try for CG up to that day or just minutes before even for a reservation.
