Updating day ticket to AP with blocked dates?

We are going in Nov for my bf first trip/birthday/anniversary combo. We already have our tickets but have talked about if he likes the park, we might upgrade to AP. And take advantage of those discounts. So my question is, if we upgrade on day 1 and day 1 and 2 are currently full to AP, can we still go on day 2 since we have reservations with our day tickets?

I know they aren't AP anymore, I just don't know the new acronym.

No you would have to make reservations with the key. You can upgrade on your last day before you leave
