Updates for the Polynesian

Ugh!
I have reservations with a request to check into Aotearoa on Monday, 12/05.
I would really like to have a monorail view. A renovated room would be a plus. Rartonaga is TBD. Does anyone know if any rooms in Fiji have a view of the monorail?

If you want a view of the monorail than request Rarotonga. Is says TBD because it is not scheduled to be done this year.

Aloha

We just got back from the Poly for our very first trip to Disneyworld. We were in Tokelau 2911 & 2912. Great lagoon view at garden view price tiki! Thanks for the heads up on your website. The location of this room had us looking right at the Hawaii Building...we were there 9/22-9/24. It was obvious major construction was going on within, but they were also still in the process of removing things. WE saw tons of mattresses being removed, and the day beds as well as chairs. Also you could see inside many of the rooms as curtains had already been removed and it looked like some of the windows/sliding glass doors being replaced as well as some of the walls coming down, I think. I didn't notice or look at the other buildings involved in the construction, but it did get a little noisy at Hawaii (especially when my kids and DH were napping!) Oh well, we had a noise machine which covered it up. Overall we loved the Poly and it really didn't seem too busy. The quiet pool was quite crowded at midnight last night though when I went to the front desk to print SWA boarding passes.

Great rooms. Sorry that you had the noise. Atleast once they are done with the doors there will not be any noise. It is very quiet when they are working inside the rooms. The only time you can hear something is in my case when I was in Rapa Nui and they were working on the room below me. I could hear drilling.

Steve, do you think the entire resort will be complete by September 2006?

vossjemi, thanks for the report.

Do you think you will return to the Polynesian? What a wonderful place for a very first WDW stay. :sunny:

Would I stay at the Poly again? Why yes, I loved the theming and the convenience since I have a 3 and 5 year old. We went to Maui/Oahu in 03 and anything Hawaii makes me yearn to go again! Ohana was awesome and loved Kona's Tonga Toast. My 3 year old son didn't even need to go to MK to ride the rides! He was saying "woohoo!" on the golf cart and on the monorail! It was sooooo cute! However, even though I liked the Poly I'm not sure we will end up staying there next trip. This trip was only for 2 days after a cruise. Next trip will be at least 7 days, and the Poly may be too much $ for us to afford for 7 days. We are thinking of buying points and doing beach club villas so we can eat a few meals in and all. I don't know for sure, but we'll see...from my sig below you can see I'm already a planning! ha ha

We now usually split our stays. We stay at the Polynesian for some nights including the high point weekend nights and then switch to BCV. It's a great combination for us. :cool1:

By summer 2006 that they first stated? NO.

I'll be back at the Poly this Friday for 11 wonderful days! I'll update everyone on the souvenier controversy, 'Ohana menu changes, and any rehabs I see going on when I get back. I leave the laptop at home on my WDW trips so the report will have to wait. Aloha!

If you can send me a copy (or write the menu in an email) I would love to update my 'Ohana page.

Wll do Steve. I can fax you a copy if you like or email.

FYI- I saw a copy of the new 'Ohana menu in a thread over on the Restaurants Board this morning. Can't wait to try out the new selections next month :)

I most likely won't get a new room. I requested Samoa first then Raratonga. My two favorites. I am going to miss the old decor though when it happens. I'm also going for 14 days to the Poly in June. Are all the rooms supposed to be finished yet?

I sent out an email to those on the emailing list about the rooms that opened that have the new design. Rapa Nui opened its 1st and 3rd floor with the 2nd still not finished. Parts of Fiji opened and Niue and Tuvalu should be open any day.

How exciting for everyone arriving soon! :cool1:

That should free up quite a few experienced workers for Hawaii. :sunny:

after spending 6 nights at Beach Club. We didn't pre-request anything but asked about a rehabbed room at check in and got one. It's fun to have a new room...especially one so big (for Disney) with a great bathroom...I like everything IN the bathroom as not to awaken everyone! Wishes from the Beach can't be beat...Kona's breakfast was great...Ohanas was delicious (our first time there) . The waitress told us the menu and style of serving just changed and she was getting used to it. The manager came over to us once and kind of quizzed us on what we liked and why. The menu was:plain wonton chips (no shrimp anything for us...allergies) with 3 sauces, bbq wings, DELICIOUS salad,DELICIOUS veggies, potato casserole very "homemade" tasty, sausage, turkey, steak, pork (entire family only liked sausage and steak which is enough anyways and they were GREAT!)OUTSTANDING cake with banana caramel sauce poured over with ice-cream (our waitress brought us out extra ice cream because ours melted so fast)...I'm hungry again! Also, we asked for fries for our kids and they brought them out for us for no extra charge. The new room was fun to have, but my whole family agreed to return to Beach Club next year. We liked it so much more than Poly! One side note/opinion: besides the new room, everything about the Poly looks like an old, dark , fake Hawaii set from the Brady Bunch. I think after the interior , they need to refurbish EVERYTHING else!

WE ate at Ohana on 9/22 and like the previous poster had wonton chips, but our bowl was half chips and half ones with a seafood filling w/3 sauces. Loved the salad, the wings, and the shrimp. The beef was a little fatty and tough, but everyone liked the pork, sausage, and turkey. Our veggies were more like stir fry veggies w/sugar snap peas and asian type vegetable. I liked them just fine. The potatoes were good too. The Wasabi Bloody mary was a little too spicy for my liking and i like spicy foods. The bread pudding was good but I would have liked to try the pineapple. My fav's were the wings and the shrimp.

Just as a follow-up:

I got an email from Jeffrey at the Polynesian (/WL) concierge IPO and he said "...the Grand Floridian Concierge, they have their own IPO team".

So apparently the GF does have it's own IPO staff. Where they are physically located, I didn't ask, so I don't know. :)

On another thread (Ithink it was the useful concierge info one), Steph noted that she had a call from a GF planner but caller id said the Contemporary. Another poster said she has had GF planners call her at different times with Polynesian or Contemporary showing on caller id.

Poor GF IPO. Sounds like they're vagabonds. Just kidding. ;)

Very exciting about these new rooms! I love seeing the pictures. Can't decide if I want to request a renovated room when we arrive late Nov or go with our favorite longhouse, Tokelau.

Try for a new room. They feel so much bigger (not that they were small before) and all the new amenities are great. Not sure why they did not put in the new headboards though. Maybe they are still on order.

Hi, we arrive at the Poly in 3 1/2 weeks. We have GV booked and I would love to stay in one of the new rooms. Do you think my chances are better if I call ahead and have them note this request now or just wait until check-in? Or are my chances about the same? I don't have a specific longhouse in mind (although, I would love Fiji).

I won't mind one of the older rooms too ;)
