**UPDATED** - I was looking at the discounted prices through the Mousesavers UT link. I think I found a ticket that would save me a little more $ but wanted to see if you guys could check my math.

The MYW (10 day) no exp for (2) adults and (1) child
Undercover tourist = $1539.71
Disney's price = $1628.39
DVC AP w/water park fun and more = $1630.52

so....I would only owe $2.13 at the gate correct?

Two years ago, we bought the 6 day MYW tickets and upgraded them to DVC AP's upon arrival. We want to do the AP's with the water parks this year.

Is the 6 day MYW ticket still the best money saving option or is there a better one to buy through UT?

Would we buy the same ticket for adt/chd or is there a bigger savings buying 1 type of adt ticket and a different chd one?
Thanks:)

6-day hopper using the MouseSavers.com newsletter link to Undercover Tourist is the biggest discount for a park ticket with a face value less than the DVC AP or DVC PAP ticket. Same ticket for both adults and children.

You'll save $26.46 on each adult ticket, and $23.23 on each child ticket.

so you would get the DVC discount and then the adittional 26 and 23 savings respectfully? please excuse my ignorance on this matter.

Yes, Disney will credit the amount of the same ticket sold at Disney as long as at least one day has been used on the UT ticket. If you just turn in the ticket unused you will get just what you paid for it. Use the ticket for a day and then buy the AP - getting both the full ticket price and the DVC discount applied.

Enjoy! :)

Thank you for that info, not normalyy one to go through that kind of legwork, but for 2 adults and 2 children that's just under 100 bucks. Pays for the TIW card and 23 bucks left over:thumbsup2

Yes, buy the 6-day MYW Hopper from Undercover Tourist (using the Mousesavers newsletter link) and you'll get those tickets at a $26/$23 discount.

When you get to WDW, use those tickets at least once. (You need to use them to enter a park, or this trick won't work.)

After they've been used, take the tickets to a Guest Relations window and tell them you'd like to upgrade them to a DVC annual pass. They'll "bridge" the value of the used ticket to the current-day's gate price at which they're selling that same ticket, and use that as the value toward your trade in.

So, you get the DVC discounted AP price and the $26 UCT savings.

You need to do your math before hand so you can be sure the cast member has done the transaction correctly. (Some have reported getting cast members who don't understand this rule, and have had trouble getting their upgrade at the right price.) If the price doesn't look correct to you (in other words, if you're not getting your $26 savings), specifically ask them if they "bridged the used ticket to the current gate price." If that still doesn't work, walk away and try at another window.

Most (including myself) haven't have a problem. However, there are some folks who had a hard time with guest relations, and have reported that the savings aren't worth going through the hassle again.

would i be able to do immediately upon leaving the park? or wait a day?

You can do it immediately upon entering the turnstiles or at the end of the day, or the next day - doesn't matter, but be aware UT ticket prices change, they do not always stay the same. They could be different on the day you go to purchase from UT.

You should always buy the UT ticket with the biggest discount from the gate price which they post next to the tickets on their site - which right now is probably what BirdsofPreyDave said - I didn't check - that doesn't exceed the gate price of the ticket you want to end up with (so a Premium DVC AP if you want the water parks).

You can actually walk through the turnstile and immediately into the in-park guest relations location to do the upgrade if you like. (Not a bad idea since you get immediate access to your annual pass merchandise discounts.)

I second walking away if there's even a hint of trouble. The ticketing system isn't the easiest thing in the world and the CMs are very proud of their ability to work with it. Questioning the results has in the past led to a hurt CM who reflected the feeling back out and at me. I was then told I could take it or leave it and when I told her I'd leave without the upgrade I was directed to the next house over where the CM there knew how to do the transaction and get the proper results.

Absolutely.

Know the current AP price and the current ticket price (the ticket you have in your hand). Know the difference between them (including taxes, of course).

Have those numbers written down and with you, so you don't have to think at all. Long, hot days, or even short COLD days (like when we did this in Dec '10 and it was sooooo cold), can really take a toll on your thinking abilities, so it's best to have it in black and white in front of you.

If they come up with some other value, stop the transaction.

It's not *hard*, but KNOW your info so you know you're getting the right upgrade value. :)

When we upgraded our 3 UCT tickets to DVC APs in 2010, we saved $90 vs just paying outright for the DVC APs up front. Not bad!

Just did this myself for our trip last month. Very easy. I knew my numbers upfront - took about 5 min to change in the tickets for our APs.

A lot of this depends on how often you can visit the parks. We typically can only make it once every 2 years for 5-7 days.
If just purchased the following UCT ticket:

Park Hopper + Water Fun & More (Fun Visits) (7 Day) - No Expiration

Giving us 7 days of park hopping and 7 days or visits to the water parks, disney quest giving us 14 days of activities for less than the cost of 2 annual passes

BUMP - I edited original post with question

See your update now - could you just post the prices for individual tickets (adult/child) you are seeing for each - that would be more accurate.

Owing $2 in total to upgrade 3 tickets seems a little low off the top of my head, but it could be right.

You need to keep one important thing in mind when upgrading tickets. If the value of your new ticket is less than the value of the ticket you're exchanging, Disney will never provide a refund. (They'll still do the "upgrade," but you'll lose any extra value from the ticket.)

In your case, the child's MYW ticket is actually worth more than the Premium Annual Pass.

10-Day MYW with non-expire option
UCT price using Mousesavers link: $520.90 (adult) / $499.90 (child)
Disney's current gate price (w/ 6.5% tax added): $549.54 (adult) / $529.31 (child)
DVC Premium Annual Pass (w/ 6.5% tax added): $558.06 (adult) / $514.40 (child)

So, your total cost through UCT will be:
2 adults @ $520.90 + 1 child @ $499.90 - $1.99 (extra savings gift off total order) = $1,539.71

Your adult tickets will upgrade for $8.52 each. Your child ticket will upgrade for free. (Again, you don't get the $14.91 back on the child ticket.) So, your total cost at Guest Relations will be about $17.04.

Your total ticket cost is therefore $1,556.75.

6-Day Hopper
UCT price using Mousesavers link: $307.95 (adult) / $290.95 (child)
Disney's current gate price: $334.41 (adult) / $314.18 (child)

Total price from UCT is 2 @ $307.95 + 1 @ 290.95 - $1.99 (extra savings gift) = $904.86
Cost to upgrade at Guest Relations will be about $647.52

Total ticket cost is therefore $1,552.38

Ok, you got me. To avoid confusion, I usually always recommend the 6-day hopper for everyone because it works for both adults and children for both the DVC annual pass and the DVC premium annual pass. The 10-day no expiration only works for an adult upgrading to a DVC Premium Annual Pass. Since you have a few adults upgrading to the PAP, you can shave a little more off your total cost by getting different ticket types for adults and children.

Mix of the two
From UCT, get 2 adult 10-Day MYW w/ no expiration, and 1 child 6-day hopper.

Total from UCT will be 2 @ 520.90 + 1 @ 290.95 - $1.99 (extra savings gift) = $1,330.76.

Adult tickets will be $8.52 each to upgrade, the child ticket will be $200.22. Your total due to Guest Relations will be about $217.26.

Your total ticket cost is therefore $1,548.02.

You'll note that in each case I said the cost at Guest Relations will be "about" a certain price. Disney's rounding and tax calculations may be different from mine, but the cost of the upgrade should be in this general area. If it's off by a lot, you need to question the cast member. (You should also double check my math. ;) ) Also, we're getting close to the time of year when Disney has done their ticket price increases in recent years. A ticket price change would certainly change the math on how much the upgrades at the Guest Relations window will cost.

thank you for clarifying. I was adding them all together and doing it as a "total upgrade" for all 3. I didn't break them apart, so I would definitely lose $ on the child ticket. Thanks!!!
