I'm going on my first Disney Dream cruise in September (YAY) with DH! I know this has been discussed in the past, however, I'm looking for updated (2016) information. Has anyone gone snorkeling on Castaway Cay? If so, did you bring your own equipment or rent? I'm thinking of bringing my own mask and snorkel but am wondering if there's a discount on renting just fins...it seems silly to rent full price. DH just spoke to DCL directly and they said its the full price, but then I read everywhere online that fins are discounted. Since I've heard so many conflicting answers and was hoping for something recent from someone who's gone in 2016! Thanks!!

We rent, (April 2016) although I wish I had my own optically corrected mask so I could see better. LOL I have read that others get a discount on just the fins, but I can't confirm. Maybe someone else will post. The only thing, for sure, that is free is, the flotation vest, which is required.

Can you use your own snorkel vest or will disney make you use theirs? We brought a life vest for my son (a very nice, coast-guard approved vest) for my son to wear for all the boating/water activities in the open water on the cruise, as he's not a strong swimmer. Disney made us use their horrible life vests for him instead of our own. I don't want to plan on all of use bringing our snorkel vests if they're going to make us use theirs. TIA :P

You have to wear theirs because the color is what the life guards look for. However, you don't have to inflate that vest. You could have your son use the vest you purchased for him for flotation and strap the bright yellow one over top for the color.

Luckily ours are the bright yellow as well and he's now comfortable just wearing the inflated snorkeling vest. We'll plan on bringing everyone's and if we have to wear disney's, oh well...there are worse things I'm sure!

On CC you can rent all of the gear or just fins. Not sure in the fin only pricing. It is mandatory to wear a vest ,but it does not have to be dcls. You can bring your own vest since thy are all either safety yellow or orange.

My daughter just used fins at CC and I still had to pay full price--$46 for the two of us!
