O.k. here I go....

My husband and I are going to Orlando on 11/15 and arriving on 11/18... yeah we are taking our time driving there. We have this friend "Mike" who lives about an hour away from where we are staying in Orlando. Anyway my hubby invited him to spend a day/night with us in the Crowne Plaza, but I don't want him to come because it's a time for my hubby and I to relax and enjoy. How do I make hubby see that for "Mike' to come is crazy?

:rolleyes1

23 days till birthday :cake: and leaving for Florida :moped:

Thank you for all the advice...

I feel like poop...
Now, I found out that his mom is scheduled for an operation on 11/14. She is having a lung removed because she has lung cancer....

Boy oh boy.... I feel like poop

Now I feel I have to be there for him...

God, I feel like poop...

This really is a horrible thing, you see I knew Mike and his real mom when I was little... my mom used to babysit for her (Mikes mom) so she can work at night so I knew them first and my husband met Mike when my hubby and I started dating (1980) during high school (yes we are high school sweethearts... and I still LOVE him completely) and they became best of friends, which is a good (Mike was my puppy love guy, when I was like 12)
thing. But anyway now I don't think he is coming to see us. Maybe, we will stop by his house on the way to the Crowne Plaza. What do you think?

my thought is: is mike a high/college buddy of your husband's, maybe a buddy from the military that he has stayed in contact with through-out the years? if so, then i would say sure come for the day and nice dinner. if he is someone he knew in high school/college/military just kinda in "passing" then maybe just for dinner. also, who would be paying for mike's room at the crowne plaza? one last thought: is this trip a special occasion trip? if so, maybe you could say something on the line, "you know, honey, this is such a special trip for the 2 of us, i just don't want to share w/you w/anyone." but don't cut mike out all together~after saying something on this order, add "why not just have mike join us for dinner one evening and we can catch up then and laugh over good times?" what do you think? would that work? :earboy2:

Another thought would be to discuss exactly when Mike is coming then YOU do something else...go to the spa ("honey, if Mike is coming Tuesday, I will make a facial appointment at GF so you all can have a beer together"), go shopping, whatever YOU want to do. Then join them for dinner/lunch. Maybe they need a few hours of guy time and you will be even more appreciated when you show back up. And perhaps this is a way to put limits on how long Mike sticks aorund.

I think it would be really nice to stop by his house if he's up for that. I would bring a "Thinking of you" kind of cardfor him and a get-well kind of card for his mom, and maybe a small gift for his mom.
