Hello All!

Hoping to have a phone interview soon for the spring 2013 program. can anyone give me a recent [from the last program that applied] list of the questions they ask so i can be well prepared!

thank you!
soo nervous...just want the interview process over and be accepted into the program!!

I don't think anyone particularly remembers their list of interview questions (unless someone wrote them down for the benefit of us all!) but I'll tell you something that is definitely of use for this interview (and ALL interviews)

1. Think of the roles you want to apply for. Doesn't matter what it is, just think of the roles.
2. Identify what makes someone THE BEST at that role. Not just good, the best. What does the picture perfect cast member look like? If you want to be a Fairy Godmother in training, what in your mind is a perfect FGiT?
3. Think of that list of traits and qualities, and then think of how many of those you exemplify or that experience has given you. For example, if you're applying for Concierge and you know Concierge folk have to be friendly and welcoming, and you've gotten lots of experience and were told you were definitely friendly and welcoming, that's a good thing. Write it down.
4. Now you have a list of things YOU'RE good at that match what the PICTURE PERFECT CAST MEMBER is good at. It may not match completely, but that's OK. You now want to remember stories of your experiences- what was one EXCEPTIONAL time that you displayed the traits you know you're good at? If you're having trouble, try thinking back to times you had to deal with difficult Guests/customers, and situations like those where you handled it well. Remember several of these stories, and write them down. The more the better.
5. Practice recalling these stories out loud until they are natural.
6. You're all set. Now all you have to do is, whenever they ask a question of you, see if you can answer the question by steering the conversation in the direction of your experiences.

Here were the questions I was asked for fall 2011.

1. We talked about my past work experience and she asked which job that I’ve had has been my favorite.
2. The ever important why you want to work for Disney and if I’d ever consider working full time with Disney. This is definitely something you’re going to want to have an answer prepared for as it is always asked. I was also asked if I had a favorite park or attraction.
3. Would you rather work in groups or independently?
4. How would you describe your work pace?
5. She of course asked what my top 3 roles were and asked if I would be interested in adding custodial or housekeeping. She made a comment about how I had a good long list of roles at the beginning of the interview. This really made me nervous even though she said there was no right or wrong answer and after I said no, she just said ok and we moved on. It’s quite common for interviewers to ask if you’re willing to add roles such as QSFB or housekeeping to your checklist as these are roles that require a lot of people but not many people want. If you really don’t want to do them, don’t be afraid to say no. I said my top 3 were Attractions, Merchandise, and Character Attendant.
6. Why do you want to be a character attendant?
7. What have you done in your past jobs where you’ve made a guest feel special?
8. How would I instill Disney magic from beginning to end at the entrances? Or something like that. This was a question directed towards Main Entrance Operations.
9. Do you have any cash handling experience? I mentioned working at a fast food restaurant at the beginning and after asking this she was like, “Oh at Culvers’, right?”
10. She asked about my experience speaking in front of groups and how it makes me feel. I mentioned most of my experience was from presentations in class so she asked what the longest speech I’ve had to memorize was.
11. She also asked how I’d feel about doing a job that was repetitive. Then she asked what I’d do if I was interrupted while giving a speech or something.

thank you so much! very helpful! so excited and nervous not that the apps are up! :)

what does this first part of the application consist of specifically?! it looks as there as this first part...then waiting 5 days to see if you get the web interview...and after that if you make the phone interview.

The web interview is really just common sense. They ask you lots of personality based questions and ask you questions regarding how you would react in certain situations. Questions will sometimes be repeated (but with different wording) to see if your answer changes. At the end of the web interview it will tell you if you passed onto the telephone interview. Most questions are just common sense and admitting to your strengths and weaknesses. My daughter applied today, did the web interview this afternoon and now has her phone interview on the horizon. Very quick process. Good luck!

thank you again! knowing this helps with the nerves:)

couple more things.... (i just want to do this application process the best I can and don't want to mess it up)

when you apply at this first part here....can you save your progress and come back to the application later? also, what do they ask of you about you previous employers? they said you need to know about them, is this like address and phone numbers? do we need references or how does that work?! how soon after the web interview does the phone interview come?!

also...little off topic..but in the program do you pay tuition to disney or your school or does it vary!

thank you thank you thank you! I'm hoping to apply tomorrow but making sure I'm super ready first!

I didn't note if you can save and come back later to the application. I will say that it is quicker and easier than a regular job application (took less than 10 minutes). Regarding former employers, they will want to know the name of the employer, city and state, your position title, start and end dates of employment and why you left. No address or phone was necessary. If you do not have any employment history this section is easily skipped. No references needed either. If you are successful with the web interview, you will have a link show up in your online dashboard when you log in that allows you to schedule your phone interview at a time convenient for you. This link will not show up until 24 hours after your web interview.

Never heard of having to pay tuition to your school or Disney while on the CP. You do have to pay a reservation fee to Disney if you are offered a position and choose to accept. I believe this is around $350 (give or take a few dollars). Something to note, the fee is non-refundable once you pay so you should be sure of your decision before you get that far in the process.

Thank you so much Keep Moving Forward!:cheer2:

Definetly easing my nerves:) just one more thing...how long are the applications up/open to apply?

i don't want to rush...i have a mock interview scheduled with my career center at school next week(thursday), so i want to make sure that would happen before my phone interview. do you think if i apply now...and let's say i pass, when would a phone interview be?
:confused3

thanks:):flower3:

I would still move forward with the application process now. My daughter was able to schedule her phone interview this morning and they gave her from September 11th through September 15th to choose from, so it seems even if you did your application now, you'd have plenty of time to fit in a visit with your career center to prepare.

My first suggestion (as well as many others who have been interviewed before) is to SMILE!! It shows through the phone - my recruiter said she could see me smiling ear to ear ;)

I applied last night for the Disneyland College Program around 6:43 pm, got the invite for the web-based interview at 6:56 pm, completed the web-based interview, received the invitation to schedule a phone interview around 10:30pm so it went pretty quick through that process. My choices for a phone interview were Tuesday of next week (and several dates after that) so I chose the 7:15 pm PT slot. The recruiter who calls you is based in Florida as far as I know.

My next suggestion is to practice a few days in advance in front of a mirror (it may help or make you nervous). I did this and when it was time for the interview, I felt more relaxed. I recommend sitting up straight, maybe even dressing like it was an in-person interview so you will sound more professional and don't hesitate to ask questions without interrupting of course lol.

Also remember to print out the top 3 role descriptions you are most interested in to remind yourself what those jobs entail.

Also remember to give an alternate phone number for back up (and make sure you will be certain you have a good connection). When my recruiter called, I lost connection. She did leave a message and I tried calling her from my second # and luckily she tried that # and we connected.

My interview questions were primarily:

  1. Why did I apply to the College Program?
  2. What were my favorite roles and why did I choose these ones specifically?
  3. Provide information on the last job I worked at and describe how it relates to the roles I applied to.
  4. Do I enjoy working individually or in a team environment?
  5. Describe a time when you had to contribute to the team.
  6. Have I ever lived in a roommate or dorm situation? And if so, did I enjoy it?
  7. Do I prefer living alone or with several people other than members of my family?
  8. What would I do if it was late and I had to get up early for work and my roommates were being loud or partying?

I know there were others but can't remember them all. I applied for the Fall Advantage 2012 but didn't get in. I did mention in the interview that I was much older than other college applicants and she said it didn't matter. In fact, she asked if I would prefer a studio and I was hesitant to say yes because I wanted her to know I didn't mind living with others younger than me. But she said it was okay for me to get a studio if I wished which probably isn't the norm but she said she thought I would be more comfortable (unless she could find someone close to my age to room with). She was super super nice!

Good luck in the process - just be yourself, relax, and smile!

I just had my phone interview this morning. The interviewer said today is the first day of interviews. I will post as many questions as I can remember, in no particular order.

- She asked why I want to be in the DCP
- She asked about my top choice roles (on my application I checked 11 things as "high interest" and only two things as "no interest." The rest were low or moderate)
- She asked about my past work experience and how it relates to the roles I want
- She asked if I have experience speaking in front of people and how it made me feel
- She asked if I had ever lived with roommates and what challenges I thought might arise from living with roommates
- She asked if I prefer to work individually or as a team
- She asked if I am comfortable working outdoors
- She asked if I prefer to work at a fast or slow pace
- She asked about my tattoos
- She asked how I would keep repetitive tasks interesting

I think that's about all. I didn't get asked any role-specific questions. We also talked about auditions because I mentioned that Character Performer is one of my top 3 choices.

Now, I wait. I need to find something to distract me for the next 2 weeks or I will go crazy!

So helpful, thank you!:dance3:

I'm applying for recreation/lifeguarding as my top 2. What are some of the role specific questions like for the two? I can't seem to find anything on these roles specifically.

thanks for all the help everyone! i passed my web interview today! and now i wait and prepare for my phone interview on the 22nd! i'm so excited!!!:cool1:
