Updated 'Ohana Menu

YAY! I'm very happy with what they've added, and most importantly what they've KEPT. :sunny:

We had dinner at 'Ohana on February 2nd and there were NO DUMPLINGS... I doubt they simply forgot to give them to us, so either this is inaccurate information or else they have JUST made the switch.

RIP Sausage :(

But...I'm SO glad (as a non-seafood eater) that they replaced the wontons with pork-filled wontons instead of shrimp or seafood filled ones. Everyone in my family insists we go here on our upcoming trip (it's a "tradition" we have to go there on the first night of our Disney vacations) and I was kind of tepid to do it again because I'm such a picky eater and the stuff I like was taken off the menu, but I guess if I like these wontons, I'll have those, the potatoes, and the sirloin so I'll be okay :)

Interesting. I just ate at O'Hana last week. Our waiter told us the potatoes would be gone from the menu in two weeks. I'm so glad he was wrong! They're my favorite part of the meal. We did have the bread last week. Its very similar (if not the same) to the bread they used to serve in previous years. Very good sweet bread. I do miss the wonton chips. I loved dipping them in the sauces.

Dude...if those potatoes go, so do I.

They're the BEST part!

Hello!! My DH and I just got back from WDW last weekend. We ate at O'Hana and loved the new changes. The bread is a Hawaiian bread...it is sweet with a hint of pineapple. Yummy on its own (no butter required)!! The shrimp on the skewers indeed does need to be peeled but is delicious!! It has a garlic butter flavor (and because it's grilled the flavor is enhanced even more)...not over powering but yummy!! The dumplings are also a nice addition!! I am just releived they did not take away the maui scalloped potatoes as my DH and I fought over that dish!! Our server Ariana from NJ was amazing, so friendly and she even gave us the recipies for the scalloped potatoes, the honey-lime dressing and the yummy bread pudding!! We were so entertained by Lipoa during the entire meal as she celebrated the culture and tradition of Hawaii by singing, danicing and recognizing special occasions for people. It was fun for children and adults alike!! :fish:

Definitely give O'Hana a try!! We have been going to Disney for years and just tried it for the first time in December 2007 for our welcome dinner (we hosted a Vow Renwal :bride: ) and we loved it. After last weekend's experience, we can't wait to go back!!

Hope this helps!!:beach:

Did the salad dressing change too? I don't recall what it was before, but I really enjoyed the dressing.

TIA

If the skewered shrimp are the same ones that were on the menu years ago, that's reason enough for me to go back - they were awesome!:thumbsup2

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love these changes! They ditched a couple of things that I didn't care for much and brought in some things that I will either like more, or haven't tried yet so I'll be happy to try.

Bread - did they have Hawaiian bread at 'Ohana some time ago? I can't remember. But I'll be happy to try it, either as a new item or a returning item.

Never liked wontons or wonton chips. Others did, but not me, so I'm not terribly sad to see them go.

Pork dumplings - something new! I'll enthusiastically give them a try next time.

Stir-fried shrimp - loved it, but I loved the skewered shrimp much better, so I'm happy about this one.

I never cared for the sausage at all. Okay flavor, but tough as shoe leather. I hardly ate any of it.

Dessert - I cannot cheer enough that the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and bananas Foster sauce is staying! YAY! and YAY! again. I know some folks liked the pineapple with caramel sauce that used to be served there, and I love pineapple myself, but to me, a $30 meal deserves a more elaborate and slightly more exotic dessert than some fresh fruit with canned sauce poured on top. I can get that at home; I want something special.

I hope someone asks soon and verifies whether you can still request the pineapple and sauce instead of the bread pudding; if you can, then the controversy and argument will end.

If you can't, we're doomed to argue the issue for all eternity.

Umm...sorry to break it to you guys, but the shrimp on the skewers also have the shell on them and will also need to be peeled! It was that way before and so it shall be again!

As I recall, the old skewerd shrimp were a little less messy than the stir-fried shrimp because they had less sauce on them.

I also recall loving those shrimp way more than the stir-fried shrimp, so I'm very happy that they're back. The stir-fried shrimp we very good, but I just liked the skewered shrimp better.

I may have to go here again to try the new menu. Which means I'll have to give up either Boatwrights, Olivias, Hollywood and Vine, or Kona.

Out of those, I'd say ditch Hollywood and Vine before any of the others. H&V is a very good meal, but the menu selection is fairly routine, ordinary buffet fare that you could find at home. Certainly, buffet food at home wouldn't be as good as H&V, but the selection would be similar.

Just my opinion, YMMV.

Me, three.

Thank you, your advice is appreciated.

The only reason I had added H&V onto my list was because it was the only MGM restaurant I have not yet eaten at, and I could do the Fantasmic package, though I'm trying to really decide if I need the package at all. Luckily I still have more then a month before I make my ADRs to make these big decisions. ;)

Darn I liked the peel and eat shrimp! Guess I would have to fill up on the potatoes ... oh and one of those wonderful fruity drinks ... :drinking: (Then I don't care WHAT is on the menu!).

Thanks to the OP for telling us about the new menu!

I don't mind if the shrimp have the shell on, but please tell me they are de-veined. It is gross if they are not (and... yes... you can de-vein shrimp with the shells on, I buy them like that all the time)!

I also loved the shrimp in the bowl! That shrimp and the bread pudding were the reasons I go to 'Ohanas. I ate there 3 weeks ago, and I am so glad I had the shrimp in the bowl one last time. I have to re-think 'Ohanas for future trips, as the grilled shrimp just wasn't the same, and I found it a bit tougher/chewer to eat. Though the potatoes and bread pudding may be enough reason to book the place again! :scratchin

Dude...Until those potatoes go, I won't. So I guess we cancel each other out...But seriously those potatoes are gross and how exactly are they Polynesian (other than the lame name)?:confused3

Great! We loved the big skewered shrimp last time we went in 2001. I'm super glad it's back!

We ate there on Feb. 4th and we had dumplings...not very good dumplings...but definitely, we had them.

My family ate at 'OHana a few days ago. This is what we had:

Sweet Pineapple Bread
Salad w/ Honey Lime Dressing
Honey Coriander Chicken Wings
Pork Dumplings
Veggies
Potatoes
Skewers of turkey, steak, pork & shrimp
Assorted dipping sauces
Bread pudding w/ Banana Fosters Sauce

Hope this helps! :)

We just booked a return trip to 'Ohana for Wrestlemania weekend on March 29th. We first went to 'Ohana about a year and a half ago when we got engaged it was the best meal I ever had. I must say that I think im going to like it more with these changes. As long as the potatoes and bananas foster goes no where, I won't! Can't wait!!!
