Updated Monorail Closure Policy!

I agree, I hope Disney never sacrifices guest safety in order to appease squeaking wheels.

if its a safety issue then disney should tell us all why they are reinvesting cash into their monorail fleet. it is one thing if they were struggling but there js plenty of money to upgrade the fleet. They have been ignored for years.

This is what we pay for.

Not trying to be snide, but unless you are an accountant for them, how are you sure they have plenty of money.

Just because they are a large company does not mean they have endless funds to fix everything instantly. Plus they have to answer to stockholders.

Also it takes years to get a new monorail train. They have to be custom built as this system is one of a kind.

The daily operational cost of Disney World would be staggering.

Can you imagine the response if they said they were going to eliminate service completely for several years to take it down and replace it.

They are doing their best to keep it running the majority of the time and safely.

I might not agree with all their decisions but I do think they put safety and guest satisfaction high on the list of priorities. I don't think they did this just to PO everyone.

Does anyone know what happened on Friday night for EMH, any live reports.

Can someone help me out here...

We are staying at BWV and we are attending the 8pm luau on a night that the MK is open until 10pm. After the luau, my plan is to take the resort monorail to the MK and then hop the bus to the BWV to get back. With the new policy, I am assuming that my plan will still work out and we won't be forced to get a cab. Correct?

TIA!

Last time we went to the Luau, they had special busses for the resorts not on the Monorail. So we got a non stop ride back to AKL. You might want to look at that option as well. It may get you back faster.

I would guess that following complaints some MBA "suit," who thought of this service change in the first place, was convinced that he was truly an idiot (or labelled one by a superior) for devising a plan that would have the resorts monorail end service before Epcot's usual closing activities and before all those who use the monorail for dinner reservations at the monorail resorts finished dinner.

I would keep the complaints coming until they witdraw the entire plan.

An MBA stands for More Bad Avise

PHD is even better.

Signs put out in various places at the Magic Kingdom this week, stated, the Resort monorail will run " up to one hour" after park closing.

It will be interesting to see if they change the signs when the park closes early.

Not saying what the OP posted was not what they were told, just reporting no one else has been told that the resort monorail will run until 11pm regardless of park closing time.

Guess we will have to wait and see what happens at the end of August when it closes at 9PM. :confused3

We saw those this past week too as well as ones for the MK saying the same thing. Funny thing is, during EMH, one hour after park closing is still one hour after EMH is over. The signs are very misleading according to what we have interpreted to this point.

We were there Fri night but we were at the Studios and crowds were VERY light. Not sure what happened at MK Fri night since we left Sat. The only EMH we had that we did was Sunday night which was the 31 so that was business as usual.

MK regular closing was 12:00. EMH was 12:00-3:00. Monorails closed at 1:00am. So if you left EMH after 1:00am, you were looking for a bus or boat, the person who reported said the monorail closed right at 1:00am.

My point was that the signs didn't say anything about "regular" park closing. I looked at them several times unless I just missed it. The signs only said after "park closing". Make sense? They could have easily clarified the signs but they didn't.

The pictures on easywdw did say "regular park close" for both Epcot & MK. Maybe you saw it earlier in the week?

Maybe they did say that. I'm not going to argue about it. You're probably right. I think I actually have a picture of them somewhere and when I go through my photos, I'll post it.

My point is that if I were an unaccustomed guest, as MOST are, I wouldn't know regular park closing from Adam. To me, it would mean, an hour after the park closes, "regular hours" being what ever hour that happened to be on that particular night. It seems to me there should have been some clarification for guests unaquainted with the difference. Maybe that's what I thought when I read it and it probably did say "regular".

My point is that the sign was still very misleading, IMO. That had to be on purpose because it would have just as easy to make it crystal clear by putting the time (ie: 11:00pm) it would shut down directly on the sign and change it when it varied. My bet is that there were a lot of guests that left at 2:00am that were very surprised to find the monorail not running. Like I said, I Was already in bed because we left pretty early Saturday morning.

A regular park guest wouldn't bother reading the sign anyway...so it doesn't matter what they put.......

Thanks for this. I am glad to see that there will be an option to the CR, other than walking.

I always walk it, but sometimes, my kids or my DH is too tired so at least they can hop the bus. We are going this week and our last night is an EMH at MK. Not sure that all of our guests will go (I know the teens will be--which means me too!) but if they day, at least there will another way back to BLT!

That's really not going to make much sense come December when MK closes as early as 7pm on some nights. So will the resort monorail only run until 8pm?

I've always rationalized paying much, much more to stay at the CR because of the monorail service being available as transport for any activity we chose to participate in.

If this means we'd have to take a bus back from Epcot, or couldn't have an ADR at GF because it may go past 8pm and we wouldn't be able to take the monorail back to the CR, then I don't see us staying at the CR anymore.

Maybe when the MK closes at 7:00 pm, then it will be open to 11:00 pm like the OP mentions.

Right now, since MK is open so late, its not closing down until midnight or 1:00 pm so it isn't interfering with the dining. But, come fall/early Winter, it will and I can see them adjusting it then.
