Updated Disney Cruise Line Navigator app

It looks like Disney updated its onboard app to include group chats. Anyone have any idea yet as to how these group chats will work? Specifically, does anyone know if it is possible to create and/or organize the group prior to boarding? There's a large group of people that I've come to know over the past year who will also be on my cruise and I was hoping that we wouldn't have to come up with a way to organize onboard. It would even be great if you could create a group and then allow people to add themselves with a password or something. Of course, this is all hopes and speculation since the app is so newly updated.

I agree. The app required us to be onboard connected to the ship's WiFi before we could set up the texting with the old version. I would expect it to be the same with the update.

Oh, yes, I figure as much. I was just hoping that sometime within the next week and a half we might get some details about it.

They were using it in may on the wbpc. I didn't use it personally because I was so afraid of getting charges. I think for it to work you had to turn off airplane mode. I know you had to have the other persons code in your phone. Your own app will tell you what your code is. I'm sure there are others that can explain it better.

No need to turn off airplane mode. You turn on airplane mode and then turn your wifi back on. That will keep cell and regular data off. You can also go into your smart phones setting and turn off cellular signal and data manually.

As long as you are using the ship's wifi you will incur no charges. We used it our entire February cruise and no one received a crazy phone bill afterwords. The only big issue was you had to keep the app open and running to get notifications. It isn't like regular texting where they will just get it. If they close out the app they won't get any messages until they open it again.

The app does not use the data that you bought. You do not have to log into the wifi to use the app just turn it on and go to the app.

There's no charge for accessing the ship's wifi through the Navigator app. You will only use your internet package data when you are using something other than DCL's app.
