UPDATED (5/3) Late Arrival - should I cancel one night?

For this trip, I will probably put the kids in PJs already during the travel. That way, they go straight to bed when we arrive.

Spring Break next year for us is March 31st to April 4th. My UY starts April 1. So cancelling day 1 means potentially having points to checkin Sunday, March 30 vs March 31st, Monday :)

But you are right - we can do it both ways. I just need to decide to do it before the 30 day period...

IMO, staying somewhere else first is like you're still traveling to get to WDW. I want to get immersed in the magic as quickly as possible with as little travel time as possible.

We are going this July and our flight doesn't arrive til 9:30pm but we are going straight to BCV. get me to the magic FAST please!

So, I normally agree with this - but with the late arrival, there's a high probability that my kids are probably really tired and dead to the world by the time we arrive :) I do want to get to the Magic FAST which is why I scheduled a Character Breakfast our first morning up, to kick start our week.

I've talked to DH about this, and he seemed ok with moving (I expected him to balk). Looks like I am really considering this. The other thing I thought about was that I really wanted to do an Ohana breakfast but was dreading the commute from BCV/BVW to Poly.

If we stay at the Hyatt on our first night. Does it make sense (and is it possible) to load our luggages to the BCV bus, but ride to the Poly bus to get our breakfast (around 10ish so not as early)? From Poly, we can proceed to a park and not get to BCV for checkin until we're done for the day.

Thoughts?

And even if they allowed you to ride to the Poly, they won't let you put luggage on the BCV bus and not ride as they don't deliver the luggage when it goes with you on the bus. You are responsible for it when you get to the resort.

You are going to have to head to BCV first to drop your luggage and then head off to the Poly for the breakfast.

You could probably get up EARLY, get to BCV, check-in, and still get to Ohana by 10AM.

However, the CAPE MAY Character Breakfast at Beach Club is an excellent option.

Unfortunately, we're not early risers :) Our first WDW visit (2 kids), we run to make our reservations and that's mostly close to noon :) Now we have 4 kids - it will be worse. I am guessing the kids will wake around 9-10am (closer to 10am most likely). In this way, DL was perfect because they are awake at 7am there! Ha.

We do have Cape May Breakfast scheduled. I had it on our first morning, but because I am now considering cancelling the first night - I moved it to our 2nd morning (Wednesday). I think we're doing that Wednesday our resort day: Cape May breakfast, SAB, WHW then do the parks in the afternoon (most likely Epcot or DHS).

Day 1 (Tuesday) is most likely going to be MK day. Might just cab it over to Poly or cancel it and do Poly in November when we're at BLT.

Reading everything here - I am leaning towards just keeping my first night. I talked to my mom, and mentioned 35 points (I said it's worth $350). But the reality is it's ~$170 (MF only), which is about the same amount we'll probably have to pay @Hyatt.

I think you are probably right. You know your family and if they aren't getting up early, no way - no how...then you are better off to go ahead to Beach Club Villas.

I just saw your follow up question. No, they won't even if you have a reservation. They scanned my DME ticket on the bus and I actually had the same situation as you. We wanted to go to Ohana's and skip the whole check in nonsense to save time but they said no.

I would much prefer to get there and be in the room that I would be staying in the rest of the time than to check into a hotel, pack up the next morning and then wait until possibly 4:00 or later for my room the next day. And I wouldn't look at it as a waste of points-but more like using points for the convenience of not having to move.

If you book at the Hyatt, you'll need to be out by 11, I think. If they are getting up at 10, that's not going to make that first morning in town all that fun, especially if they need to take showers, etc. Then you make your way to the new resort, stash your bags, etc etc, and have the start of your day.

It would be WAY more pleasant to arrive at *your* resort, know that the room is yours for the whole trip, and not have to move the next morning.

I agree... if your family is not early risers I wouldn't want to move hotels. Because basically you just wasted a whole day. We come from CA and we have done everything under the sun flight wise and we found for our family it is best to do a red-eye to Orlando arriving early then, do a character meal and shop and hang out by the pool, wait for our WeGoShop order until our room is ready. Then, go to bed early like 8 pm and we are ready the next day. I'm not sure where you are coming from if you are just taking a late flight, etc... One year we did get room at POP, we arrived around midnight. Slept in until 10 am. Got ready to leave and then, walked around the resort, etc... Had breakfast at the resort. Check-in at our hotel and then, went to the Mickey's Very Magical Christmas Party. I really like not moving rooms but I'm the minority on these boards. I think it is because we travel so far to get to WDW that I'm don't want to waste any time packing and re-packing, etc... Good luck with your decision..

Completely agree with you and guess what? I live in California. There would be no reason I can even think of that would make me want to move hotels/villas once I reached Orlando. We have found though that we like the early (6 am) direct flights so that by the time we land we can get either a dinner at MCO or a late dinner in the resort, unpack, and 'try' to go to bed early. We have found ourselves in the pool though on several occasions. :)

Too funny. We can't afford the 6 am flights otherwise that would be ideal. We live in a small town and our airport is small so the 6 am flights are between $200-300 extra per person and we have no direct flights :-( --- I wish. We have to drive 2 hours to get better prices. So, we take the red-eye for cost as well. The cheap flights here leave at 2 pm or 10 pm.

UPDATE!!!!

So, I was really decided that we will keep the night, but yesterday, the MVMCP dates and discounts came up and it is NOT happening the week we are there, so now I need some points back to book rooms the week after.

I cancelled the first night of our June trip, June 3rd... will stay at the Hyatt at MCO instead.
I also cancelled the last night of our Nov trip, Nov 29... our cruise is on the 29th, so we're going to drive to Miami the day before instead and stay there that night near the port.

These gave me back 71 points from our current UY (Next year's UY is all borrowed out, and I'm already borrowing from UY 2015 for our Spring break trip).

My 7 month window for 12/4 opens up tomorrow, so I will try and book at least 2 or 3 nights so we're onsite for our 12/5 MVMCP. I wish we're still in BLT so we can just walk to the partk, but I don't see ANY availability except SSR, but I guess we'll take that.

So in the end - the points won. If I didn't need it I would keep it, but we've run out of points! :) Looks like I have to check out Hyatt for that night.
