Hi all! I'm back with yet ANOTHER trip report, this one focused on Festival of the Arts! I just finished up the TR for our bucket list trip in November (club level at the Grand Floridian...we're bougie people sometimes :D), so of course, time to do this one! If this is your first time joining me on a trip report, I go SUPER extra with the photos #sorrynotsorry - I used to use imgur to host 30 photos per post but I got burned when that whole thing went weird, so now I just upload directly to disboards, but that means each post only gets 10 photos. So that's why you'll see days broken up into like 10 or 12 posts, cause ALL the photos. :D

And guys, I have no other Disney trip planned! Both Trevor and I are federal employees and all the chaos that's been happening recently has very much put us in savings mode and being worried about our jobs. So we'll see what happens - in the meantime, I'm gonna enjoy reliving this trip!

The details:
who: me and my husband Trevor
when: Friday Jan 24th through Friday Jan 31st
where: Beach Club!

Introductions:
I'm Tiffany, I'll be your ghost host for this trip report. :) I'm 37 and while I'm a librarian by education, I currently do federal records management, since records management is where the pay is, and I gotta pay for Disney! Favorite princess is Sleeping Beauty, but I also love Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast and Rapunzel. Favorite rides are Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror...I feel like I should stop before I just list all of them.

My traveling companion is my husband Trevor. He's 39, and loves Star Wars and Marvel, but has grown to love Disney--his favorite characters are Boba Fett, Vader and Stormtroopers, and on the non-Star Wars side, Grumpy. I recently turned him into a roller coaster fan (after him not riding them for our first several trips), so now he likes Cosmic Rewind and Everest...I think Rise of the Resistance and Star Tours are his favorite rides though. :)

This picture is way more true to our personalities though :)

Trevor saying "hey wait what are you doing" and me being like "ha ha I did the crazy thing!" (like buying ALL the art :D). But make no mistake - that's not Trevor being mad or upset, just catching up to the crazy that I've done. He's always (usually :D) on board. :)

Ok, let's get started! Festival of the Arts is my absolute favorite festival and so when we renewed our APs last August, a FARTS trip was a given. And after how much we loved staying at Beach Club last year because of the proximity to Epcot, that was our first choice. Then because the Festival is our priority and we'll spend most of our days there, I booked us Disney After Hours at both MK and HS. Then it was pretty much just on hold planning-wise until Disney released the artist signing schedule, the broadway concert schedule, and the food booth menus. Which they did SUPER LATE! And so our dates ended up shifting a bit. Originally it was Sat Jan 25th through Thurs Jan 30th, but then they announced the artist schedule, and Ashley Taylor, one of my favorite Disney artists, had her last day of signing on the day we'd arrive. And I didn't want to miss her, so Trevor and I chatted and decided to fly in the night before (late) and use his hotel points to stay for free. :) And for those who've read my recent TRs and are thinking "wait this sounds familiar..." you're right, we did the same thing before. Maybe I should just start planning that way originally!! :) Anyways. Then a week or two before the trip started, Trevor and I were going over the plan and he was like "uhh why are we coming back on Thursday? why not Friday?" and honestly that's all the encouragement I needed, so I added on an extra day. :) It was a little bit weird - it seemed like almost all the Disney resort rooms were sold out! I wanted us to stay at Beach Club (not interested in switching resorts), and the only room I could grab was a club level room. You'll have to wait to see if we keep that - I was checking a lot to see if a regular room would open up!

The other thing that was throwing off our planning a bit was the new benefit that you could use on your checkin day: going to the water park! Trevor and I have never done a Disney water park and we figured this would be a decent trip to try that. The first day wouldn't work for us, but we had a split stay (still at Beach Club, in the same room category so we'd asked to have them linked so we didn't have to move rooms- I don't remember quite why I split those, I think maybe cause I could get a discount for that one night but not the whole time? Don't remember. It was a while ago), so our next check in day was Wed the 29th. And then for the night we added on, we had a check in day on the 30th. So several options! We hadn't decided which day we'd use that on - we figured we'd wait and see how the weather shook out and how we felt. But we definitely wanted to use it!

Anyways, by the time we were ready to go, I'd gone through all the food booth menus and highlighted the ones we wanted to try, figured out the artist schedules of who I wanted to meet and when, and otherwise we were pretty set for a mostly relaxing trip. :) We'd even planned out our outfits a few days before, so that the night before and day of we'd just have to do regular packing. This is my pro tip, by the way, if you want to have outfits planned out: plan them out before you go, and then take pictures of what y'all are going to wear, so that when you're there you don't have to worry about that, you just pull up your picture and can be like "ok I'm wearing this, you're wearing that, these are the ears I'm wearing, boom done". So much easier than trying to decide in the moment - or remember what the plan was. :)

OK! So finally it was Friday - travel day!

Travel Day! - Friday Jan 24th 2025 (part 1)

We were flying out at 7:40 pm, so Trevor and I both went to work that morning. This time, we did better than we did on our November trip - I left around 1:30pm and Trevor left earlier. Yay! Last time neither of us left before like 3. So I had time to get home and pick us up some lunch/dinner (Jersey Mikes! that rosemary parm bread is yum), and then we did last minute packing up and making sure we were all set.

We called an uber and I rolled the dice with a regular uber (vs an uber XL), and we lost: we got a prius. Trevor was making fun of me - the Prius had their spare tire in the trunk so had to do a bit of arranging to get it all to fit. But it did fit! We got to the airport at 5:51 and were through security by 6 pm on the dot - yay TSA precheck. Plenty of time. :) Actually it was funny - as we were driving, I saw that we'd arrive by 5:51 pm and I remember thinking "watch us be through security by 6 pm" and we were! There was a warning on the Southwest app saying to arrive 3 hours early cause of the inauguration earlier that week, but we didn't run into any issues, obviously. Though if we hadn't had pre-check it would have taken longer, especially cause right as we got into the pre-check line there was a huge group of kids who got in line for security, but they went through the regular line. Phew!

We went over to the gate and grabbed a seat. Trevor was rocking his Pirates hat from the November trip:

It says "the Beatings will continue until morale improves". :D

We were supposed to board at 7:10, but at 6:40, they made an announcement that they were going to start boarding and to line up! Most people ignored that, but I was like "hey he said to line up, let's line up!" so Trevor and I lined up with like maybe 10 other people? We weren't sure if they'd have us just sit on the plane or if we'd leave early, but I figured if the gate agent was telling us to line up, we should.

At 6:51, we were on the jetway! People were still not ready or lined up even with them saying "ok we're boarding now!" so like maybe only 15 people got on ahead of us? and we were like A 50something, I think. The gate agent was like GO GO GO. I loved it. :)

We got exit row seats with extra leg room - woot!
IMG_5817.JPG

Boarding was done at 7:04, except for two people who were missing. The gate agent actually came down and did an announcement over the PA, that there's an evening rush out of DCA and he was trying to have us beat that rush, but there were TWO MISSING PEOPLE. The two missing people finally showed up and we were able to leave about 10 minutes early, which isn't nothing. And mostly I just enjoyed the gate agent's energy and like "GO GO GO". We moved fast. It was nice. :)

But we took off at about 7:30, and I took a video of takeoff, cause when you take off out of DCA and if you're on the correct side, you can see DC!

We landed at 9:45, were off the plane by 9:57, and by 10:15, we had our luggage in hand. Not too bad! And as we headed outside to wait for the uber, it was almost chilly! Trevor was teasing me so much about the prius that picked us up from home that I went and did it again - rolled the dice on a regular uber. It took FOREVER to connect to a driver, and then when it did, it was a Corolla. Which is apparently a small car? I don't know anything about cars but Trevor was like "it's the one car smaller than a prius" and kept teasing me that we should have gotten an XL. We had plenty of time to talk about it though because it took 10 MINUTES to arrive (which I feel like is waaaaay too long for an airport ride but I'm just impatient). Trevor at one point was running through all the cars he could think of smaller than a corolla - it wasn't many - and I was like "that's not really reassuring!" His response was "it's not supposed to be!" And then he made some comment about doom and despair - oh well :)

While we were waiting I actually put on my jacket - I got chilly! Trevor was toughing it out because per him "it'll be warm in the little baby clown car!" :D

The uber finally arrived at 10:30 (so a 15 min wait) but It was fine - it was a bit of a tight fit, but it was all fine. And then we arrived at the hotel at 10:46 pm.

We were staying at the Wyndham Garden Orlando Universal / I Drive, which is right across the street from the hotel we stayed at in November (that tower with the globe thing on top).

We got checked in (a 6th floor room) and went to the room to drop off our stuff. The room had interesting wood paneling - it like kind of seemed modern but also very 70s?

King bed, nothing too special but it does the job. It did have a moss wall panel, which was...interesting.
IMG_5832.JPG
But yea, that wood paneling was throwing me off - modern? old? both? I kind of felt like they were going for a modern look but missed. Oops!

But after we dropped off our stuff, we headed back out - why? Dinner at Del Taco!! There was a Del Taco just a few blocks away, so that's where we were going. DC doesn't have Del Taco and its one of my favorite fast food places (Trevor's too) so we try to stop by when we're at Disney.

This is the hallway - see what I mean? All the wood!

Anyways, Del Taco time!

Dinner and a Game! - Friday Jan 24th 2025 (part 2)

It was a quick, if slightly chilly/windy walk over to Del Taco. And pretty soon we had our food!
IMG_5835.JPG
Trevor likes their fish tacos.
IMG_5837.JPG
I'm a chicken soft taco gal - I do acknowledge that the picture is not good. :D But the taco is so good! The sauce really makes it - not sure what the sauce is, but it is *chef's kiss*

We also got some chips and guac and queso, which I didn't know they had!
IMG_5836.JPG
It was great - definitely hit the spot. Yum.

We were back in the room by midnight, and so I was getting ready for bed - and got surprised with the nice blackout curtain they had!
IMG_5839.JPG
It just drops down and covers the entirety of the window, which is definitely a nice touch.

But while I was getting ready, Trevor was playing video games on the steamdeck with his brothers and dad. :D
IMG_5840.JPG
I have no idea when he actually came to bed, cause I was already asleep. :D He was warned - the plan tomorrow was to check in to Beach Club and then rope drop the art booths at Epcot cause there was a very particular piece I wanted that was super popular and so I wanted to have the best chance of buying it. So we weren't getting up at like the buttcrack of dawn or anything, but I was hoping to be on the road to Beach Club no later than 9am. So speaking of making choices and living with them. :D

But overall, a very smooth arrival day! We left slightly early, had great seats on the plane, had just eaten Del Taco...and tomorrow, art! Any guesses on the art piece I was gunning for first? :)

Fun with metrics:
Steps walked: 5132 steps (2.2 miles)
Ride count: 0 (I never count the faux monorail!)

Yay a new trip report! I can't wait to read more.

I didn't realize you both were government employees, I'm so sorry for all the uncertainty these days, almost everyone I know here is a Federal employee and the amount of stress they're under is so crazy. I feel so horrible for everyone going through this.

It's funny, when taking off/landing from DCA I prefer to be on the Virginia side, yeah it's not as cool of a view, but I do get a really cool view of the roof of my house! :rotfl2:

Thanks for joining!

Thank you - it's been rough, and no end in sight. I'm worried about the secondary effects too...but hopefully things calm down!

LOL there's something to be said for seeing your house! Truthfully I can never remember which side is which, so it's a surprise every time! :D

Whoo-hoo! I’m excited for another of your trip reports!

Honestly, I thought of you given all the chaos in Washington. I didn’t realize Trevor was a federal employee, too. I understand the savings mode and hope everything remains okay with both of you. :goodvibes

Your FArts trip sounds spectacular! Club Level at the Beach Club?! (You mentioned Grand Floridian in your hotel list, but I’m thinking this was a typo given your description?) After Hours at MK AND the Studios? That sounds like so much fun!

I’m glad your travel day was off to a great start. I agree that the decor of that hotel was… a choice, but it looks nice and clean. I’m glad you had another chance to eat Del Taco!

Yay - I love your FARTS reports. I haven't been able to get down to FARTS since 2020 (right before the world shut down), and I miss it SO MUCH.

And as another Fed employee, I understand your angst right now. I've been sitting on some DVC points for 2025, and I finally had to asknowledge that there's just no good time to go for the forseeable future, so I gave them to my ex to use while he takes or youngest to look at colleges in Florida on her spring break. 😢

Joining in again. We loved the Beach Club. It was our first place we stayed after we got married way back when.
