*Update* WDW'S a no-go /Any daily headache or chronic migraine sufferers out there?

I have suffered with daily cronic migraines for 17 years now. I have tried everything from imetrex injections to massage to chiropratic care and every med out there. It wasent until this past march when my obgyn gave me fiorocet to take that I finally got some relief. Since I am pregnant it was one of the few safe meds for migraines out there to take. I was even able to stop my caffeine addiction with it and now only drink water or juice. It took about 2 months but it is worth it. I now only get them once every week or so.

How much caffene does your daughter drink? That may be causing it.

hardly any caffiene, co coffee, tea, coke... the one pop she drinks is rootbeer. She WILL drink a Vault at times to try and help the headache...she will try anything. Actually we are amazed that she does not need caffeine as her schedule requires a lot of long nights and all nighters....and I know sleep pattern disruption can be a trigger/contributor, but sadly, those long hours are a norm for her.
Gald you were able to find something, I ope her MRI at least rules out stuff and she can relax a little, and we can focus on finding a med that helps. This just will be really hard with her 4 states away and the campus does not have a health center...:sad2:

Hi, I saw the key word in your post and thought I'd give you my two cents. No, I'm not a migraine sufferer, but my friend is. She has been housebound for a while now, tried every single med, including Botox, and nothing has helped.
One night I was watching the local Fox News and saw a little story about a new experimental treatment for migraines. I watched, wrote down the information, and sent it over to my friend. I couldn't believe it, but she ran with that info like she was gonna score a touchdown. Now, a few months later, with a little tweaking here and there, she is a new person. The treatment may seem very scary, but she told me she was suffering so much, she would try anything, and that she did. It's not working perfectly, but she is definitely on her way to having a normal life.
Last week we ran some errands together and she was just so happy, the way I remembered her from high school.
Here's the link to the video. My girlfriend's name is Cathy.

I don't have migraines but i do have chronic headaches. I about hte same age as your DD...i just turned 20. Ive had them for about a year with them increasing to about 2 or 3 major headaches a day.
We thought it was migraines at first but i have none of the migraine symptoms except for headaches adn none of the migraine medications have worked.
But in addition to my headaches ive also been having memory problems, numbness adn tingling so i had a CT scan and im off to a neurologist next week and i'm going to have an MRI and see from there.
But i also have inappropriate sinus tachycardia, severe asthma, severe eczema, and PCOS....I have 1 internist and 7 specialist...i feel like i should have my own medical clinic somedays

This may be a silly question, but is it really worth it to go to a headache institute?

And has anyone tried going to a chiropractor? Or acupuncture?

Good Morning America is going to have something on about Migraines this am.

:rotfl: I hope there is a cure for migraines too! All of the women in my family suffer from them horribly. Even my 2 DDs get them - my youngest DD started having daily migraines at age 5. :sad2:

When I was on Topamax and we would go out to eat, DH would slide me the check when we would go out to eat to figure the tip. I would stare at it and not be able to figure 15% or 20%. I have no idea how well or how poorly we tipped the servers during my "dopamax" days. The rages scared me more than the other side effects though. The slightest thing would set me off. I slammed the front door so hard that I split the wood in 2 and we had to buy a new front door! That was the final straw for me and I told my Dr that I was not taking it anymore. I had to wean off of it slowly but I was SO GLAD when the side effects finally wore off - about a month or 2 after my last dose.

Good luck, OP. Hope your DD finds some relief soon!

OMG that is waht I was like on Dopamax!! I hated the stuff. I ended up going for a job interview at a temp agency on that suff:rotfl: let's just say I didn't score too well on the tests!!

I have had headaches since I was a child. They have come and gone over the years. No common trigger. I have tried many meds one was Topamax. I was one that the side effects were worse that the cure. It worked but I felt really bad. I also lost weight.Less than 2% of people have kidney problems, I was one of them. I kept having kidney stones that caused alot of problems. So off the medication I went. I have a friend that has had no issues at all and it works for her. I hope you can find that one drug that will work for your daughter. I keep looking for mine.
Good Luck

wow, again, many thanks for all the help and sharing of stories, we are off in an hour for the MRI..neither of us slept well last night so maybe that is good for DD, I know the machines are lous but I *think* they said for her to bring a CD...guess they can play that thru the machine? No idea....anyway...since this is a Friday and we do not have the Dr appt until Tuesday, going to feel VEEEEEERY long to get results.

:cheer2:I have tried many things- if I get one- I take, Maxalt (the disolvable (sp) one) and it usually works guickly, I ahve also taken Zomig nasal spray which works in about 20 min, but the taste is blahhhh - Relpax is another I have taken aswell and it works eventually - BUT for a little while now I have been on Topamax- a low dose (2 pills a day) and it has worked really well- my side effects have been, minimal so far- soda tasting weird (not that I need to drink it anyway) being very thirsty (drinking lots of crystal light) the appetite thing which i really don't mind and feeling a bit fuzzy the first few weeks- but that has either gone away or I have gotten used to it. Either way I can deal with it all because recently (before taking) my migraines were getting very severe- enough that they were mimicking stroke like symptoms (side weekness, speech problems) (Dh is a Dr so he takes good care of me) Until something else comes out I think I'll stick with this.-- GOOD LUCK!!!!

Oh my gosh...I am SO glad my fellow Topamax users posted about soda (I say pop) tasting funny. I never associated that with the Topamax and I had NO idea why I suddenly couldn't stand the taste of it! I took a drink of Sprite one day at Subway and I almost spit it out and told my husband something was wrong with it. He tasted it and thought I was losing my mind, said it tasted fine. It was from a fountain, so I thought it didn't have any syrup in it (you know how it runs out sometimes?). So I bought a can of it, and same thing. My husband did not believe me that pop tasted strange to me all of the sudden. I used to love it, but now I don't want anything but water. Maybe that's a large part of the weight loss- the sudden aversion to pop!

I went to a headache center affiliated with our local college medical center, and I saw a neurologist. He was wonderful. He couldn't quite figure out what was going on with me (other than my regular doctor was very wrong), and sent me for an MRI. Mine turned out to be a sinus infection, that I had for probably 8 months. He sent me to an ENT and one course of antibiotics and steroids, I have not had that kind of pain again.

Sometimes it takes someone to admit that they don't know the answer to actually find the answer.

DD had the MRI today...we won't have the results made clear to us until Tuesday at the doctors. The Imaging place gave us a CD...so DD HAD to look at it the instant we got home. She found a hidden Mickey :thumbsup2
Pretty wild to finally see inside your teenagers head...lol...actually, we have zero medical training so just cool to see images of her brain. Hopefully Tuesday does indeed rule out anything wicked, and we begin the migraine process again. So far today tho, no migraine, and DD was hoping for one so the MRI could capture it.
Guess our quick weekend WDW trip scheduled for 8/7 is literally on hold until Tuesday( stopping for the weekend to celebrate DS 15th Bday on the 8th, then continue on to drop DD at college) until after Tuesday...talk about stress before having to travel!
Everyone has been so helpful and I have written down all the different meds everyone has mentioned. You guys have saved us a ton of legwork,
THANK YOU! And I hope everyone's evil pains go away :wizard:

That hidden Mickey in her head must be the Disney gene. :)

Hope she finds some relief soon. I have had numerous MRIs and CT scans over the years to try to pinpoint the cause of my migraines with no luck. The one thing that an MRI tech told me once was that if there was something REALLY serious going on (like an aneurysm) then they wouldn't have let me leave the hospital.

Sometimes it is just a matter of avoiding your triggers and finding the medicine that works best for you. Wishing your DD migraine free days SOON and Happy Birthday to her! :woohoo:

ha ha ...I told her I was going to post it( the image w/the hidden mickey) on the boards...and thank you for mentioning the not let you leave the hospital part...pretty obvious, but MY brain seem to have ceased functioning1:upsidedow I think once she gets official word that there isn't anything serious, she will relax and be able to deal with the various meds/search a little easier than she has been. Looks like Topomax/Dopamax is not one to try tho, at least maybe not first, seems like it would be the worst match for her lifestyle.

I used to have migrains that would last anywhere from 3 days to a solid week. The last few years they have easied up. I've tried several drugs in the past to prevent them, including Dopeamax, only on me it should have been called syco-max:rotfl: There was another one too that had me throwing things!! The Dr. kept upping the doseage....I had enough one day and quit it cold turkey, you were supposed to ease yourself off it.

A question for the people taking Maxalt.. has your Dr. told you a limit on how many times a day, week, month that you can take it? My Rx is for 6 pills for 3 months now.He said it increases the chance of a stroke if I take more than 2 or 3 in a months time. I've taken that many in a few days before so I'm trying to figure out if its my age (46) or that I've been taking it for 10 plus years or what:confused3

Yikes. I would call your Pharmacist and ask about the Maxalt. I tend to trust Pharmacists more when it comes to knowing the details about the drugs (it is their area of specialty after all) than the Doctor.

The Phamacists said the same thing... When I first got the Rx it was for 18(?) pills and I swear he said I could take 1 then another in 2 hours if I still had the migrain. I don't ever remember a limit on how many I could take in a week. I think part of the reason the Rx was for so many was to cut down on cost.:confused3 Can't wait to hear what other people take (amount wise).

My DH has tried chiropractors, acupuncture, all sorts of neurologists and even had shots of botox. I definitely think it is worth it to see someone that specializes in just headaches. DH husband has also tried all sorts of medicine in many different combos. Dr. Diamond said sometimes people just have headaches with no medical explanation and it is just finding the right combo of meds to help get them under control. Thanks, Terri

updated that the doctor feels perhaps we should postpone WDW right now, or at least don't do any rollercaosters/jerky stuff....we do not have the MRI results yet, btu based on what DD has been telling her, and that DD is on day 6 of pain( tho it has been letting up here and there and no barfing yet)...:sad1:
