update w/pics page 3 post 34!!

Well, we have a serious problem with not having enough furniture in our house because of this very problem.

As a result, it has taken us 11 years to get about 1/2 of the furniture we want. DH has purchased all kinds of tools to make furniture. Here's his first attempt at a bed: it is solid walnut and probably cost him about $300 to make. You'd never find something like this in a showroom, and that's sad.

Anyway...if your husband is inclined to make things, it might be worth it in the long run to purchase a few tools and get him started building those family heirlooms!

That's why I didn't buy our furniture from Ashley. They use our product (particleboard) to make their furniture so I knew what it was going to be. Plus they are difficult to deal with as a vendor.

I thought Ashley was top quality furniture for the prices they charge for it! I have a store right across the lot from where I work but haven't even walked into it yet.

I am another who likes the first set better.

No one should have to accept furniture that is literally falling apart as it's being brought through the door! Better it did this now and not "just after" the date for returns. Glad you'll be getting the set you really wanted. :goodvibes

Well, dh acted okay with it all day, only to come home and start trying to talk me out of this decision. He kept it up all the way through dinner, all the way to the furniture store, even said, "you go in, I'll wait out here. I have nothing to say."
Well, we go in, look at the furniture and the first thing dh says, is, "Loriann, you're right. This IS better quality!" Can anyone say I told you so??? So, they look it up to see if it's in stock and it's not going to be in until April. I said go for it. We'll wait. Now I'm having to hear the constant complaints about waiting, and how we should have walked out.
I'll post pics as soon as it comes in. And by the way, I looked it over carefully and it's all wood!!! YAY!!!

April 1st is not that far away. My DH would be doing the same thing, whining and compalining. But when it is all done, it willl be beautiful.

The furniture place just called and said that since we really want the set, and it's going to take so long to come in, that she's going to sell us the floor model. Now, I looked over that floor model with a fine tooth comb last night, even crawled under the beds, and bounced on the mattress and it's in almost pristine shape. There are a couple of superficial scratches on top of the night stand, but you have to be right on top to see them. I addressed the scratches and she's giving us a 5% discount, and the best thing is, they will deliver it on this Tuesday. No, actually, the best thing was, telling dh and having hime not be able to argue about it at all. Aside from the general hassle of the whole situation, he has nothing to complain about!!!!

We had a similiar bedroom story, but it turned out okay.

After having the Colonial Pine Ethan Allen bedroom set for 21 years, I wanted a new one when we renovated the house. The set was in great condition, beutifully made, all wood and heavy as heck!
We donated the set to Salvation Army. Didn't want the hassles of trying to sell it. We then went furniture shopping and was in sticker & quality shock! :scared1:
The sets were cheap and expensive. We went to every store and shopped for months. Finally decided on a Thomasville set. It was more than I wanted to spend but decent quality.

We now learned as per Bon Jovi ( i think):
"You don't know what you've got , till's it gone"

Wow, he did a great job on the bed. I would love something like this for my guest bedroom!

To the OP, I am glad you are getting what you want. Enjoy!

I'm glad you decided to stick to your guns and that they're going to sell you the floor model, often times there's very little wrong with them. I hope you don't have issues with the other company and returns.

Hey that worked out great! You can get a lot worse than a "couple superficial scratches" on stuff coming right out of the warehouse.

When I first opened this thread and saw the pictures I thought you were going to ask which one everyone liked better and I was going to say the top one hands down.

Glad you stuck to your guns and got the set you really wanted. The extra discount was just icing.
I love those "I told you so" moments. :thumbsup2

I let DH talk me into my 2nd choice dining room set to save a little money (this was many, many years ago - it would never happen now) and I've always regretted it.

The furniture is here, no buyers remorse this time!!!

Thanks for all your support and not making feel stupid for venting about this!!

it really is LOVELY. I just found out that my sofa that was supposed to be delivered on the 14th won't be delivered till the 28th. So much for 4-6 weeks, that makes it 8 weeks. FEH and double FEH.

Beautiful. I'm glad you got what you really wanted.
