I think things are starting to look up for us. It has been a strange few weeks and I just want to thank everyone here for being my extended family, durring my time of need. Well Dh and I have decided not to go back :guilty: . I have a gut feeling that it isn't safe for my son right now, and I would never forgive myself if I couldn't get to a hospital, or something. There is only one way to get across the river into the city and my BIL said it takes hours. There is still a curfew and shortages of food and safe water in my area. Besides our jobs are gone and even if we could find work our home isn't livable and my Mom told me apts are very scarce. So we have been looking around Arkansas and there just isn't anything around here so we got to thinking. I used to work for Disney, so maybe I could get work there again, and we can relocate to that area.

Well Dh and I have Disney interviews set up for Oct 11th. The CM I spoke to is very excited about us and from what it seems we should not have a problem getting jobs. I am interviewing for a Photpass photographer position, and Dh for bell services. We are scouting apts now(via internet and an awesome diser ;) ), and if all goes well we will finally be able to get back on our feet and begin to start over. Wish us luck.

It is going to take 2 days to drive down. Leaving Saturday morning we will stay one night in Atlanta and then on to Orlando on Sunday. The apts I scouted via internet look nice and we plan to view them that week, and hopefully some others.

I have a few questions about daycare and such, so any CMs out there, please pm me.

Thanks for all your good thoughts, pixie dust and prayers....
Stephanie

That is great news! How exciting to be going off and starting all over somewhere new.. :)

You know, just last night I was thinking to myself that this horrible tragedy might ultimately turn a lot of peoples lives around and give them a fresh start to an even better life.. I know it sounds odd, but from my own experiences of the past year I have learned that sometimes you have to suffer great losses and hit rock bottom before you can attempt to rebuild your life again..

You're starting fresh and the sky is the limit! Best of luck to you and your family.. :flower:

I also want to wish you good luck!! Your future looks promising, I so hope that you obtain employment and a place to live soon!

Good luck!

Stephanie,

Wanted to wish you and your husband the best on your interviews. You and your family remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Here's a triple scoop of pixie dust for you all... :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Take care,
Jennifer

Congratulations and good luck!

What were the two of you doing for careers before this happened? Those sound like some awesome jobs and I hope you get them!!! :cheer2:

I think you've made the right decision on that count.

Good luck as you open the new chapter of your lives and keep us posted. We're thinking of you!

Stephanie,

I am so glad to hear things are starting to look up. I think of you and your family often.

Dh was in school to be a paralegal. He contacted the UNO and the paralegal department head said the best they could hope for is to resume paralegal courses "next" August, hopefully. So he has found a paralegal school in orlando and they are willing to work with him in his transfer credits and out-of state fees. So he will start school in January if we get the jobs and such. I had just started court reporting school, and may look into that once we get settled in.

I do need some ideas for daycare...I heard from someone last time I was there(Feb05) that Disney has some on site employee daycare. Anyone?

I sent you a PM. There are two onsite daycare currently. It's really great for the CMs.

:)

Thanks for the update, Stephanie. Good luck on your prospective Disney jobs!! :)

UNO (my alma mater) did sustain a lot of damage. Today's paper listed some of the damage done to state owned buildings. UNO's damage was $180 million, the only one listed with a higher damage amount was the Superdome at $200 million.

Good luck with your interviews. I also think you have made some good decisions. No way would I bring a young un into New Orleans right now.

Good luck to you and your DH on your interviews. :)

Good move. I agree about taking kids back to New Orleans, the water isn't drinkable yet. Please keep us up to date!

I just got the best and worst surprise in the mail! The worst is that I have been turned down for Disaster unemployment insurance. They told me over the phone that it is probably b/c of the few months I was home with the baby. Dh is elligable so we'll get something...

The best? Eeyore sent me a post card!!! I must be famous :smooth: It says "Stephanie, Hangin' there! Life will get beter -Eeyore."

Thank you Eeyore! It brightened the disappointing mail a bit!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I just hope we are making the right choice. Dh has never been this far away from home before and is a little on edge.
Thanks

Good luck with the move and the interviews! Glad to hear most things are looking up. :grouphug: :cheer2:
