Good to know. Why in the world should anyone need to carry a knife on an airplane? When everyone who works in the airline industry spoke out against this stupid law, the government wouldn't listen. They must be getting serious pressure now.

Lots of people carry one piece tool sets which have little knives (including many corkscrews). You wouldn't necessarily need to use a knife on a plane, but you might need tweezers, a small screwdriver, nail file, scissors, etc., which are often included in these tools.

Quite frankly, there are plenty of items allowed to be carried on planes now which could easily do as much damage as a small knife. You can kill someone with something as innocuous as a ball point pen.

That is a very silly question. Most men carry a small pen knife on them in their pocket. We don't check our bags any more, so it would have to go with me in my pocket.

What's the big deal? before 9/11/2001 I always traveled with a pocket knife. In my younger days it was a Buck (U.S.A. made) folder in a sheath at my side. Later it was my Old Timer stockman in my pocket. There was never a second glance from airport security, and there shouldn't be any commotion now. I even ordered me a new Buck 309 that specifically met the new proposed limits, just for our trip to UO in May. This rule change would only bring the U.S.A. inline with international standards. And yes, I have flown all over the world, so I know.

So do many women. I always have a small knife or utility tool with me, as do my mother, sister and several female cousins. My sister actually has a pink knife when you carry a knife routinely, you often 'forget' that you carry it. I'm not trying to smuggle it onto a plane for nefarious purposes. I also agree with the PP who said there is just as much damage you could inflict with a ballpoint pen. I'll take it one step further and say you can do just as much damage w/ scissors, which have been allowed for awhile, as with a knife.

Yup, some TSA agent has a very nice original Boker Tree Brand clip point in his possession now.

But, they never give a second glance to you carrying one of these with you...

We leave this coming Sunday (05-12-2013) and it is looking like that nice little Buck I bought just for this trip is gonna' have to stay home. I hate buying those cheap Chinese throwaways while traveling just to have one with me.
