Update on my mother's surgery

It is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30. The actual surgery could take 2-5 hours and in-hospital recovery will be 2-10 days depending on how much they have to cut her open. During her recovery she will have chest tubes for a couple of days and be in ICU for atleast 24 hours.

The nurse we spoke with was very honest. She said this type of surgery is actually more painful than open heart b/c of all the muscles/nerves they need to go through. There's a neurosurgeon on stand-by in case the tumor is closer to the spine than thought. (It's somewhere bewteen the spine and left lung.)

Now that we have the date, it all seems "real" now. My mother is very nervous, as well as the rest of us. I knew this was coming, but now that it's here and so soon....

Although my recent surgery wasn't nearly as complicated....

Your mom will be less scared than the rest of the family, more than likely - 'cuz she gets to sleep through it!!

Everybody was so worried about me, but I was fine - I knew once I got the anesthesia, I'd stop worrying.

Wishing you and your mom the best next week. My MIL had a tumor removed from her spinal cord 5 years ago. She is turning 90 this year, and is doing splendidly! I am praying for those kind of results for your mom.
