I want to thank everyone for their continued prayers and good thoughts for my mom. I have appreciated your PM's and kind words also. After 6-1/2 months of uncertainty she finally has confirmation (a second opinion) that her problems all stem from a wheat allergy. For the last week or so she has been totally off wheat and dairy and she has seen a remarkable improvement. During the course of this mystery she has lost about 35 pounds, but for the first time in a long time she is feeling better and she is feeling a little stronger and she sounds so much happier. I just wanted to share the good news and say thanks to my DIS friends for their support during this frustrating time.

I'm sorry it took so long, but so glad that it's so easy to take care of! Best wishes for continued good health for her!

I am sorry that it took so long...but happy that you finally know...what a relief!
Glad things are working out....
Hope she stays in good health! :)

Debbi, that's great news for your mom! That's amazing that she is just now (at this point in her life), discovering a wheat allergy. You would think it would have been a life-long allergy. Wow. I'm glad to hear she is doing so much better!:)

Hi Debbi!

Yes - it's me again and no - I'm not a stalker! - LOL

Strangely enough my boss has recently been diagnosed with a Wheat allergy.

He has to be careful about breads, cakes, muffins etc - I think he had asthmatic symptons that led him contacting his local doctor.

He too had been eating bread etc all his life but it only recently became a problem. Not sure of your mums age but he's only early 40's - so it just goes to show.

I'm so glad that your mother is feeling better and that they know what caused the problem :)

I'm so glad to hear it wasn't anything more serious! Thanks for the update!

Allergic to wheat! Wow - I am sure all of you are greatly relieved to finally get an accurate diagnosis - but I can't believe it took all those months to find out.

Hey there Debbi, WOW.. WHEAT ALLERGY!!! It never crossed my mind.. Holy Cow. I am so glad that your mom has a diagnosis!!! YAY!! and that it is a workable diagnosis!
May God grant her patience to deal with the allergy.
Joan

Thanks everyone. It is hard to believe that it took this long for the diagnosis, but I guess it was a process of elimination. The first doctor dianosed a wheat allergy about 4 months into the process, but he seemed to be such a quack with all his different diagnosis that it was hard to believe a bread and cake loving 76 year old woman would wake up one day with an allergy to wheat. I am so glad that my sisters and I persisted that she get that second opinion!

Really glad your mum's allergies are finally confirmed. It took just as long for me DH's consultants to discover he's intolerant of all "E" numbers - nightmare, but now we are on top of it and it makes such a difference.

Shame about all those cakes though:( But I've noticed more and more products in our stores over here that cater for wheat-intolerants.

Great news ~ Glad that the docs seem to at least now know what is wrong with your mom.
