for those who offered prayers last night on my 13 y/o son with chest pain in the ER, here's an update. He does have inflamed muscles in the sternum area, and is being treated with Naproxen. He is unable to play football or do any form of exercise for at least a week until the inflammation comes down. He is still having some chest pain, but is toughing it out, and even went to school today. They said thats also what was causing his chest pain. Everything should be back to normal in a week with the meds. TY SO MUCH to all that offered prayers and good thoughts last night. We really needed it!!!

A great update, so good to hear. Good wishes and prayers still with your son, and you too.

TY! He is feeling better...grouchy and grumpy, so getting back to normal. Gotta love the teen years LOL!

So glad it wasn't anything more serious! Now you can breathe.......................

TY! AND NOW...my sister is having her baby. I swear, can't everything stop so I can take a deep breath. On an up note, I will be an aunt again tonight...I will be up to 4 nephews!!! Can NONE of my sisters have a girl??? I went to the Disney store today and saw cute Tiana and Tink stuff, and sighed as I walked away. I ADORE my nephews, but a niece would be GREAT!

Congrats to her. I like the name Zane

Ok, one question about your son though, an inflamed muscle of the chest wall shouldn't cause an elevated heart rate--what did they say about that???

That's great that you found out the problem and it's something easily fixed! :goodvibes

I'm not a doctor, but I can say from experience that it could have been a bit of anxiety kicking in. I've had chest muscle pain before and got freaked out not knowing what it was. Then everyone around me started freaking out wondering if I was having a heart attack. By the time I got to the ER, my heart rate was way up and my blood pressure was sky high. After finding out it was nothing serious, everything calmed down on its own.

To the OP, I'm so glad your son is going to be fine. It must be a big relief for both of you.:)

I agree, and pain will also elevate your heart rate. It could have been a combination of those.

And congrats on your family's new addition!! She'll need some really tiny "Baby's First Christmas" stuff for the little guy!! :goodvibes

They said it was mostly anxiety...baby Zane Isiah was born tonight as well! Weighed 7'11 and has TONS of hair. Wont have pics for a few days, but I'll post them when I do!

my dd had chostocondritous sp? It is a condition with inflammation of the sternum. She thought she was having a heart attack and was very frightened. she had several episodes before they realized what the problem was. During this time the fear of heart attack led to panic attacks.
A very good dr. diagnosed the problem and told her about the period when he had this. He was very reassuring that this does, in fact feel very much like a heart attack. She was put on high doses of ibuprophen. It took a very long time to go away. She was instructed to take a fairly large dose of ibuprophen for several days every time it flares up. It occasionally will still bother her. She was also told to examine her daily activities to try to find out what she was doing to trigger it. I believe it is her 40lb backpack. The dr. also felt it was the desk/chair she used in school for pc work.
Even now if it flares up dd will get a panic attack. She has had every heart test and knows she if fine.
