DD and I got home this morning after four days in LA. We had a great time. We toured Sony and WB studios. We attended the taping of three Wheel Of Fortune episodes and one episode of What I Like About You. We really enjoyed the tapings. I spoke to Adam Sandler and saw Lindsey Lohan and that red-haired doctor from ER.

DD auditioned for 26 talent/casting agents and the executive producer for "According To Jim". He was previously the executive producer for "Eight Simple Rules". She got a lot of positive feedback and was told that she did a great job. Unfortunately, they said the only way they would sign her was if we agreed to move to LA. They are just not interested in talent from across the country. The jobs (especially TV programs and commercials) are cast quickly. They often find out about an audition the same day it needs to take place. There is no time to make a five hour flight. They also don't want to pay for travel expenses.

I told them that I am not willing to move to LA at this time. We just moved to Orlando a little over a year ago. Not only is LA very expensive, but it just doesn't have the same appeal for me that Orlando has. I didn't realize until we drove around LA, how clean and pretty Orlando is in comparision. The entire time we were in LA, we didn't see the sun. It wasn't cloudy or foggy. It was smoggy! In addition, I talked my sister into moving to Orlando so that she could be near us. There is no way I could tell her that we were moving away.

So, for now, DD will concentrate on applying for college and doing what acting is available in Orlando. If something special were to come up that they felt she was right for in LA, we would be willing to relocate temporarily for the job. When DD finishes college and if she is still interested, she may try moving to LA. She was disappointed, but that is just the way the industry works. While I totally want to support her and her desire to act, I also have think of the long term consequences. I would use up my retirement savings very quickly trying to live in LA and we would have to kiss goodbye the Florida Bright Futures scholorship money for college.

In the meantime, I would appreciate it if all of my friends on the DIS would send positive vibes toward the film industry moving more jobs to the Florida area. Much of the movie/tv business previously in Florida moved back to LA when the state of Florida decided to withhold tax incentives for the film industry. Recently, a lot of film work had moved to the Louisiana area because they offered great tax incentives to the film companies. After Katrina, they may need to move elsewhere. Let's all hope they decide to return to Florida.

Thanks again to everyone for their support for Kendall!

Wow Peg, sorry things can't work out just now, but there's always the future, and if Kendall sticks with the acting, LA will always be there.

I know what you mean about the lack of appeal of LA. I went for the first time in March and was a little disappointed. It wasn't quite what I expected. Nice, but not the land of milk and honey that you so often think of from movies and TV. Orlando is much nicer IMHO.

Awww, sorry things did not work out a little better for Kendall. She is a beautiful girl and no doubt that opportunity will knock again for her. :wizard:

sorry things didn't work out, but would you be supportive if she didn't want to go to college and moved to LA to try? Could she go to school out there?

Glad you had fun. Has Kendall thought of colleges in LA? It's tough to do the auditions and classes at the same time, but not impossible. I know it would be hard to let her go, but you have to be in NY or LA to pursue that field.

I worked as a commercial model and actress from my teens into my thirties, although I am not a actress, just a good mimic. ;) We still keep an apartment in LA for DH's work and he commutes from No. California. Among other things, I just can't handle that smog. :crazy2:

I totally understand about LA, I moved away from their as soon as I was old enough! Good luck, positive thoughts for Kendall and her continued success!

I would be supportive if she wanted to go to college in LA, but I know that she would no move there without me. She needs to go away to school someplace a little less intimidating and closer to home first.

Peg,

Why not have your daughter audition for Disney? She could do SO many things - Hoop De Doo, Adventurer's Club, Beauty and the Beast show! DIsney has a rep in the movie/theatre world. SHe would get GREAT professional experience and would have to join the actors union, so she'd be "in."

I wish her TONS of luck! It's a tough industry, but she's beautiful! If she's half as talented as she is pretty, she has TONS of potential!

As soon as she turns 18, she plans on auditioning at WDW. She would love to do one of the shows and it would be great experience. She is a singer and has taken years of dance, so they may just decide they like her. I also think she would make a perfect Alice.

How wonderful that you were able to go with her and ber her advocate. IMHO, you made a fantastic choice. L.A. will always be there, and in the mean time she can get some great local experience.

I've visited LA and it doesn't do a thing for me either. I know people that love it, well, thats not me!

If the offers in FL don't hold up or are not good caliber, that is something to revisit at that time. I know that things will turn up eventually.

What about other cities around LA? LA was the only tacky place we saw; everywhere else seemed gorgeous! Of course, it would still be awfully expensive.
